Technics SL5200

Postby 1evil1 » 10 Jan 2012 22:25

I found one of these for sale and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about how much it is worth. It's in great condition but missing the needle. The owner wants me to make an offer.

Any help would be great!

Thanks!

The owner told me he was hoping to get $85 for the table. Does anyone know if this is reasonable for this table? I saw one on Ebay starting for $150.00 with no bids.

It doesn't sound much money if it's all in working order? Difficult to check if the stylus has gone AWOL though.

Thanks for the response JaS.

I decided to pick it up and got it for $65. Now it's time to clean it up and order a needle. Does anyone have any advice for cleaning up this table?

The Vintage Technics site lists a 5100 for $300 and a 5300 for $320, from 1979, the 5300 being automatic. These weren't cheap.
The library has the instruction manual here:

The specs look good.

Cheers,
Alec

Sounds like I may have got a good deal then. Thanks for the link Alec.

It seems to be in good working order just have to wait for a new cartridge to come in. They had been using a Shure M97 but the stylus was broken off. I'm going to start with an AT 95E to see what this table will do before investing more.
