AKG P8ES with X8SR Stylus

Postby pserci » 16 Apr 2005 09:22

Hi all, i recently purchased on ebay a NOS stylus for my AKG P8ES cartridge. I never heard this cartridge before because i get this cart together with a thorens TP16-II Wand and without stylus.
With this stylus i've definitely change my Shure V15-III, because the AKG tracks better and sound better!!
The question is what kind of stylus is The X8SR and what are the differences with the original X8S?
I ask to "google" but no answer....

Thanks in advance to all the listmates!

AKG stylus questions

Postby weisselk » 24 Apr 2005 17:49

According to my info, the correct stylus for the AKG P8ES is the X8S, which is an elliptical stylus. R in the AKG codes usually stands for spherical.

There is also a deluxe version of this cart, the SuperNova, which uses a VenDen Hul stylus. This is the one to look for, in my opinion.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Jonathan for your help. I also have purchased on ebay an aftermarket x8s stylus. I'll post listening impression when it arrives. The actual X8SR Stylus, tracks at 1.4 grams very very well and sound very good.

Regards
