Dual CS 522 with Ortofon OM5E?

Hi. I'm new at the LP world. Some days ago my sister gave me a present Dual 522 (used). It has ULM 45 E cartridge. But I'm afraid to use the old needle with new LP's.
I wanted to buy Ortofon OM5E cartridge, but realised, that it's not possible without special adapter...
Maybe you could give an advise what is better: Try to buy adapter and ortofon OM cartridge, or just change the needle for ULM 45 E.

Vy.: Using an OMB5E on the 522 would be a bad idea anyway in my view, as that's not ideal for the ULM arm in terms of compliance. An OMB10 is hardly more expensive, but would already fit a good bit better to the arm - although for a 522 I'd suggest to go for higher quality and use at least an OMB20.

However, as you don't have the halfinch-mount adaptor kit (afaik, you'd need adaptor kit G - i.e. this one: http://svalander.se/vinyl/skal/3178_500.jpg) yet anyway, an new DN145E for the ULM45E would probably be the most reasonable choice.

I respectfully disagree. The difference between compliance for the OM5E and OM10 are only 5 u as far as I can tell. Are there other reasons why the OM10 would be better?

Also, from personal experience I can say that the OM5E is a good match for ULM tonearms (I use a dual 601 myself) IF the brass weight on top of the cartridge is removed (use a screwdriver for this).

Of course, most dual turntables do merit a better cartridge. But if budget is your first concern, the OM5 might be a good choice.

jawa: The arm of the 601 isn't ultra low mass, but rather on the light side of medium heavy (~ 12 g) - whereas the ULM arms are a lot lighter and hence work better with the 10 instead of the 5E.
