PL-600 DD issues

Postby soundgardner » 17 Aug 2010 16:20

PL600 DD not spinning and the arm is not being moved to the platter. Replaced bulb below tonearm. Board is heating up and smells scorched if left on too long. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Turn it off. Open, and check for shorted resistors, capacitors, or rectifiers, etc.
If you are not comfortable doing this, or the problem does not make itself obvious, you may want more experienced help.
Service manual is here:

PL-600 no worky!

This project may be beyond my paygrade. Is there a resource for repairs or a new board? I'll ask around on the local level. A good friend and Linn TT mechanic doesn't feel the Pioneer is worth the trouble. This is a second TT, but one I'd love to keep running. My other TT is a Heybrook TT2.

The Heybrook is a far superior turntable. Still, it's nice to have another at hand.
It might be more practical to replace the Pioneer, perhaps selling it for parts.
