Alley Oop, Purple People Eater, Ahab the Arab and Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini totally reflect my cheap plastic Japanese transistor radio years.

A friend had Monster Mash and we wore it out playing it.

novely

Postby josephazannieri » 03 Jul 2010 21:20

Yo seekers of novelty:

With regard to novelty milkmen, I offer the following;

"That's the time the sandman hasn't got a chance,
Athough maybe it's late,
Cupid wakes and looks around for new romance
While the milkmen syncopate!

Down the Milky Way each mornin'
Cast your cares away till dawnin'
Everything's Grade A
At the Milkman's Matinee!"

If you want. I'll even sing it for you.

Good luck from that obscure old guy,

Joe Z.

Captain Beaky (and don't forget Hissing Sid) were celebrities Twiggy, Eleanor Bron, Keith Michell, and written by Jeremy Lloyd, the "band" made two records, and performed on TV and as a West End musical show.

Captain Beaky's band are called Timid Toad, Reckless Rat, Artful Owl and Batty Bat. The title track from the first album, "Captain Beaky", was released as a 7 inch single with "Wilfred the Weasel" and "Blanche" on the B side by Polydor in 1980; it reached Number 5 in the UK pop charts.

Little richard hit

Postby josephazannieri » 04 Jul 2010 16:07

Yo seekers of ice cream and useless information:

The Little Richard hit is "Tutti Frutti." The title is a reference to the Italian ice cream flavor that includes fruits of all sorts. I wouldn't call it a novelty song, because it's a straight-ahead sexual brag from a guy who has at least 2 women, and likes the different aspects of each one, but has one gal he "loves the best," proving what a stud he is, because he can keep up with both.

And that's another useless fact from the Zannieri catalog of useless facts.

Good luck from the old purveyor of useless facts,

Joe Z.

Also Simon Templar-Splodginessabounds

What about all the Bonzos Albums

I can't comment on the rest of the world, but here in Britain the novelty record seems to have vanished.
Right into the 1980's some strange "comedy" song would catch on in the nite-spots of Sunny Spain, and would promptly become a hit back here.
I can't recall any since Roy "Chubby" Browns record "Who the f*&k is Alice"
