Phono preamp schematics here anywhere?

Postby tubesaurus » 26 Feb 2009 07:31

Hello

Iam locking to find a collection of good phono preamp schematics.
Can I find some here in the library? Or anywhere else? Transistor design is prefered, because I have enough schematics with tubes.

The purpose is, to find the schematic which is worth to rebuild it, make a layout and PCB.
This can be designs with 4 or more transistors per channel, or 2 op amps...
I have also some schematics, maybe we can share? But where to put them here?
cheers

Hi,

There are plenty on the net, some good, some not so good.

Passive or active EQ is an issue, one or two stage for active, passive
pretty much has to be two stage, I never seen a single stage version.

A lot are op-amp based. Some of the transistor versions are poor,
too simple, finding an elegant design is difficult, and then there are
the FET versions some swear by, they need some serious supplies
to avoid the inherent limitations of the circuitry.

I think a collection will only confuse, as there are so many approaches.

but for example :

Checkout the Pearl : http://www.passdiy.com/pdf/pearlphono.pdf

For op-amps see http://www.diyaudio.com - lots of choices and opinions.

For transistors I'd say older classics schematics are your best bet.

Suggest you do a trawl of http://www.diyaudio.com as there are many projects there.

I'm building the Pearl at the moment and it gets a good name, also all the details in DIYaudio (just search on Pearl until you find the thread)

Hello
Thorsten's project: http://www.ispra.net/audio/preamplifier ... rsten.html

Richard Murdey's:
VSPS - MM: http://www.geocities.com/rjm003.geo/rjm ... _pho5.html
Phonoclone - MC LO: http://www.geocities.com/rjm003.geo/rjm ... _pho4.html

These last two I recently made. I gave them good PSU and I can use them with any cartridge - settings on dipswitches.
Pictures in gallery in DIY section.

I'd go with the sound.westhost.com reccomendations. But don't count on my view much, as I still use the pre in my integrated amp.

IMO the designs in the app notes for the National LME opamps are as good as anything out there- if you power and bypass correctly.

The earlier thread in this section on the cambridge audio 640p give both the 640 and 540 schematics.

I have one of the Cyrus MM phono board from a Cyrus PRE pre amp. If that is of interest send me a message with your email address
