Hi

I picked this tonearm yesterday at a garage sale (paid $25.00). This is in mint shape but am not familar with the maker Koshin.
Is there anything that can be done to this tonearm other then a rewire?
Any additional info would be helpful and may use with a spare P3 base and try my Koetsu Black with it to see how it works.

Thanks
Mike

Hi,
Don't touch this tonearm and sell it to me.

Hi,

If it is not broken do not fix it. I do not know many people that
would in some way or another not probably make it worse.

In this case, as the original headshell wires and internal arm
wiring is pure silver an attempt at rewiring is very pointless.

You could spend 10 times its cost on a flashy arm lead.

Hi

Thanks for the replies!! I wasn't sure what this tonearm was when I bought it (I just figured it was a well built tonearm for $25.00)

Didn't know the wiring was silver in this arm, so will keep original.

I'm not sure what sound I'm going to get from this, using a Koetsu Black and a P3 base but will keep everyone advised.

Thanks

Mike

Hi,

There is a manual for the arm on this very site - it says silver wired.

Links to manual work fine. You may have to upgrade your Adobe Reader.

You may also have to change the privacy settings on your firewall. I have to set mine to off using Zone Alarm to download manuals.

THey are great arms and well made you should be ok with your Koetsu but they sound fantastic with Dynavector cartridges as they are the best match. WHY cant I find deals like that?????????????????? there have been good deals lately on the 801 here and there but for what it is worth depending on the weight you have on yours as they came with 3. I sold mine for $700. which is still a deal as they are built like a tank!! Daren

Hi Daren

I have the lighter weight and have the large counter weight that slides over ( so weights A and C if you go by the manual)
The seller didn't know what he did with the extra weight and said he used the original wiring for another deck he sold quite awhile ago.
I'm building a new plinth to go with this (getting quotes on slate and acrylic) and am going to use the large VPI platter and motor.

Going to be a pain but fun!!!

Thanks

Lustre 801 tonearm

Postby wpod » 01 Oct 2008 19:54

There is one of these arms listed on Ebay and it is currently at $380.00 with 8 hours to go. I think that you did quite well for $25.00, however, I'd be glad to double your money and give you $50.00 for it. And I'll even pay for the shipping! (just kidding of course) ENJOY!!!, regards, wpod
