I'd have thought it's toss up between the TD125Mk2 and the TD150. I note that you haven't got the TD160 on your list which is a good combination with the SME arm.

I've got TD160 Super and TD160 S BC V, the latter with an SME IV and it doesn't dissappoint...

Though I do like the idea of an Ambience (if only... )

Steph

Oh thank you for remind me of 160 , I really forgot it.
As you are using sme IV arm,i would like to ask that this arm can be set on td 125 or not.
Or if you have another suggestion about arms that improve the td 125 much more than 3009 do.

I think the match between arm and cartridge is more important.......

Hi Jitze, Thanks for joining.I am agreed that the combination of ARMS+CARTRIDGE is important ( the better the cartridge ,the better the arm also.)But i think there is/are limit of any turn or my turn to couple with the superior arm, so i wanna know which arm to make td 125 mk2 greater performance. I have been thinking of many arms for times ,but couldn t decide to get one . If anyone use other than sme 3009,plese tell me the performance compare to sme 3009.

The arm/cartridge combination isn't important in terms of good, better, best, that kind of gradation is not very interesting, they have to serve eachother, so an 3009 could be good on a TD 125 with a matching cartridge.
I tried some MC's on this arm and it went wrong, with some MM's it gave a nice result.
Because I prefer MC's I have choosen another arm, the Mörch UP4 special, but a series III could be an upgrade too.
The cartridge, not the turntable, is the factor on which this kind of decisions have to be made.

Yes,the same meaning but different way. when i want a better cartridge ,i think of the arm and when i think of the arm i think of the turn. So i wanna try another arm that work well with my td 125 mk2 and this arm must work well with a superior cartridge too.I don t want to waste my money buying a cartridge that not work with my arm.

There was something more in my reply, my favorite arm is the Mørch UP4 an unipivot with a reasonable price and different armtubes to optimize the mass for the cartridge.
In comparision to the 3009 II, the series III could be the better choice, works well with lot's of cartridges and can be found on the secondhand market for not too much money, I think this one is underrated.
In combination with a TD 125 these arms could make a cartridge sing.......

Hi, thank you for you reply. I once thought of SME IV,SME V but don t know they can set on td 125 or not. I think sme 3009s2/imp has its own limit to match some good mc cartridge so i am thinking of changing tonearm. Or changing turntable is the way :?:

The TD 125 is a good table, maybe the looks are somewhat dated, just try the arm/cartridge combination you like and listen to it. :)

Steph. For curiosities sake why would you think the TD 125 mk II would sound better than a TD 125 which has a cast aluminum subchassis and
a more substantial platter bearing, the mk II has a stamped steel subchassis, I would think the mk II is simply a cheapened mk I

Fred J,

You may well be right. The MkII does have a one-piece spindle which (and I may not be correct on this  ) I believe the MkI does not...

The reason I didn't mention the MkI is because it wasn't amongst the options drc gave. He was interested in which out of the Thorens decks in his list was the 'best'.

Otherwise I'd have said the Ambience/SME IV was the best
