Technics SH 10 EP PSU

Postby Julian-S » 04 Oct 2008 23:09

Hello! Just joined up this evening. Bought my first SP10 and PSU today.
I had no idea that the power supply was so big!! 19" rack mount.
The T/T looks to be in good condition but it does not work.
The units came out of a BBC studio so it has been butchered.
I have stripped the supply down and cured a few mods. that had been made. There are still a few mystery wires that need putting in the right places so I need a service manual or just a schematic.
If anyone can help I would be most grateful.

Cheers,

Julian.

Hi,
The 19" EP power supply usually comes with wired remote controls for stop/start, speed selection and pitch control. Did you get them with the unit? You may find that the controls on the motor unit aren't wired in, or in some cases don't have micro switches fitted under the buttons.

I ended up knocked together a very Heath Robinson looking device consisting of relays on a piece of vero board to get my deck controls working as it was all I had in my bits box; one day I'll get around to replacing it

Technics SH 10P PSU for SP10 MkIIP

Postby Julian-S » 05 Oct 2008 21:32

Jas and Dave,

Thanks for your help ...so far!! I have got the deck going, you were right. The 3 way speed selector was missing. I also had to sort the power supply; it was in a bit of a mess.

Now here is the puzzler: The diagrams for the SP10 Mk II are not the same as the deck I have.
The T/T I have is a SP10 Mk IIP. The board shown is the standard one to use the oscillator, logic and switches within the deck. I have checked the appropriate board number on the schematic diagram and it is different to the board in mine.
There is no oscillator etc on the existing board, they are in the PSU. I bet the chances of getting the right board for this deck are about nil.

I stand corrected but I am thinking the domestic PSU just powers the deck with 140v, 32.5v and 5v.
If this is the case I'm probably stuck with a very cumbersome variety of separate boxes everywhere!
Any suggestions, ideas, mockery welcome :-)

Julian.

Hi,
Did you download the right manual?

The right link is named mkIIP (RP 2/9) service manual (en) - actually the very first manual on the site and the reason it was started

http://www.vinylengine.com/library/technics/sp10.shtml

As for the number of boxes, it should be possible to reinstate the on-board speed controls and do away with the wired remote ones completely? I ended up moving the power connection sockets to the back of my power supply then placed the pitch control on the front panel.

Julian

I have the same PSU.
There is a secondary (non Technics as far as I can work out) board in the PSU.

I have tried to reinstate the on-board speed control as JaS suggests but failed. My idea was to lose the pitch control too.

Instead I've got a second enclosure with all the on/off speed and pitch controls...I must look at it again. I did manage to get rid of the remote controls (including 3 telephones!!!) though.

Great TT
