Michell Gyro SE: Extending motor lead

I've just received my new DC motor and HR PSU upgrade for my Michell Gyro SE turntable. Unfortunately the captive lead from the motor isn't long enough to allow me to locate the HR controller in the best position.

I was wondering if I could use a Mini-XLR Male to Female cable (1 metre) to extend the motor cable? A cable like this:

Would there be any loss in performance?

Just be careful the connections are the same as Michell's own - otherwise you could damage an expensive motor or PSU. In general there's no problem extending power connections such as this, so long as the terminations and connections are of suitable quality. LISTEN for any changes!

Why not ring Michell and ask Steve Rowland. He will most likely be able to tell you if it is possible.

I spoke to Steve this morning and he said that they can replace the lead with one of the length I need for a very reasonable £11.75. Its the best option so I'm going to do that.

That's probably the best plan as then it is fully warrantied and you have peace of mind. If you visit in person you will gain a lot of knowledge from Steve, especially how to set up the deck perfectly, if he has time to talk.

Yes Steve said I could drop by and they can do it while I wait. Unfortunately I don't live in London anymore so I'm sending it in them.

Never had the pleasure of meeting Steve although I've had a fair amount of dealings with him over the years. Only found out the other day that he's John Michell's son-in-law. Out of interest do you know if Michell manufacture their own components or are they all outsourced? I always thought it was just Steve, Bill and Sue.

and Billys little helpers (3) am due for a trip to BW in the next few weeks time for new belts ect, Steve is a nice guy and Bill is allways helpfull(a jaz muso in his non working mode) and Sues dulcet tones on the phone. AH AH AH. I recon John would be happy with the way his company is being run , he was a great bloke ,missed by many.

Michell used to make just about everything in-house, but the last
ten years or so saw a trend towards outsourcing (*). Yet, it's definitely much more than just Steve, Bill, Julie and Sue over there, and there is always a lot of activity in the workshop.
