Where in the World

the good, the bad and the ugly

It is not so bad to keep the old money. In Holland they sometimes only changes the f's for guilders to E for euro's and did not change the numbers. Audio has become far more expensive too, when those Euro's came. And we dutch had the best bill designs of the world! Most people will be thinking in guilders for many years still. In my point of view the budget audio market is collapsing more and more. People have different toys these days. The real classic audio knowledge seems to get lost too. But I would not like to miss this nice hobby. Dutch audio? What wants to come into my mind? Philips, Vandenhul (interesting site ), Pluto, OLS at Breda with their nice speaker range, Silltec cables, Hawk Audio from guru John Vandersluis, Hepta speakers. Not so much as from the real homeland of hifi: UK.

Hi everybody !
I live in small village 1,5 km from Helsingborg in southern Sweden. And my favourite interest is Music. Besides listening with my Thorens/Arcam/Mission stereo I also play blues and soul on my '98 Gibson Nighthawk...
Almost forgot... Single Highland Malt, Scotch Whisky, preferrably Aberlour, goes well with all kinds of music...

Hey. This thread is really interesting. I live with my Dual 621 (modified in Germany to run on mains power in North America) in Mission City, British Columbia, Canada. This little city is an hour up river from Vancouver and is almost at the head of the Fraser Valley. The mighty Fraser river rolls by about 250m from my home. Mountains are on my North side (and close at hand). If I drive for an hour I can jump in the Pacific Ocean. Sometimes I do. I must confess to owning, along with my Garrard RC-88, six 8-track players as well. Does this make me some sort of traitor? I teach school and the little children are fascinated by 8-tracks. I wouldn't let them work my turntable, though, so it stays at home.
Cheers!

Hi all,
I live in sunny Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, Uk.

I have listended to vinyl all my life, but only got into 'proper' HiFi three years ago.

Here's one to make your toes curl.

25 years ago, my family moved from London to Bristol. Before leaving London, we had a big junk clear out. My grandmother found some plastic bags with records in, and later confessed she had thrown them all away. My sister was not best pleased. It was every Beatles 7inch they had released up until that time, and many albums, plus countless Rolling Stones singles. All went to the tip, unknown to her, or me.

The only survivor was a double White album, but not one of the very rare ones, unfortunatley.

Oh well, such is life.
