New, Searchable Cartridge Database

the thin end of the wedge

I can't say I've ever had connectivity or speed problems with the cartridge database? Other than obvious things like a slow network or busy server, any speed issues are most likely down to Internet Explorer trying to draw those huge (and useful) tables. I'm not a big fan of Firefox presentation but the cartridgedb is lightening fast with that browser

Ed. Is there any chance of making VTF a searchable field on the initial search form? I wanted to try and find all carts that, for example, have a VTF of between 2g and 3g but have no way of doing this unless I go through every cart manually. No problems if it is too much hassle or you think it is of no use or importance. Thanks.

I'll try to get to that Lee. I don't have much time to devote to the site since I changed jobs 1.5 yrs ago so its stayed mostly the same since that time. Its not a difficult request...I just have to find the time.

L,
The people who host the database is a company I used to be 50% owner of. They host it as a favor and haven't thought about it in years. The original IT admin left and a new one took his place that wasn't familiar with the Cartridge Database. In their zeal to clean up things they pulled the plug on something they were'nt familiar with. I spoke to my ex-partner and they re-enabled the site. It should be fine now.

You're welcome...it's been educational (collecting the data) and somewhat fun creating it. I'm glad it's proven to be useful.

I can't believe I haven't even looked at this until now. Bloody good job! This will come in handy for consulting before I upgrade my analog front end later this year. Do you have any idea if anything like this exists for tonearms as well?

As an aside, I noticed the photo of the Dynavector Karat 17D2 packaging. There was a thread started by b50 about no longer running into RIAA frequency response graphs for cartridges at purchase. When I bought my 17D2 there was a graph showing the response of the actual cartridge I had purchased, not just some generic graph showing what is expected of the product line as a whole. There in the photo was the graph right in the box waiting for the lucky purchaser. It's too bad this is a practice used only for the highest end cartridges these days. (or so I read in the thread) I won't see one until I get my new gear at the end of this year. (if then!)

Are you kidding - just go to The Cartridge Database's own Tonearm database via the link on the page or go here: http://www.cartridgedb.com/default_arms.asp

Such an amazingly useful web site.
