It was my wife who introduced me to the Horslips. I have The Man who Biult America, Aliens, Book of Invasions & The Tain. They were a real surprise as I thought they would be just another Irish folk band. They play stuff thats right up my street and some of their songs are very prog wich isn't a bad thing.

Well I reluctantly returned Surrealistic Pillow, it's a great record and I'll have to find it somewhere else soon.

Today I bought some more vinyl (I now need to find time to listen to it).

Look Sharp by Joe Jackson
Ogden's Nut Gone Flake by the Small Faces which is on red vinyl, it was new so should be fine.
The Deutsche Grammaphon set of Beethoven's Symphonies conducted by Karajan for $AU10, what a bargain second hand and they look like they have been well looked after.

A lot to listen to now :D

I wa dragged around the Charity shops this afternoon by my wife. I always have a look at the viny and CD's. Couldn't believe my eyes when in amongst the Val Doonican and Perry Como records there were two albums I knew about but didn't expect to ever find. Lard featuring Jello Biafra (ex singer with Dead Kennedys) & Nomeansno also featuring Mr. Biafra. They were in decent condition and at only One Pound eaach were a snip.

Great album. I only have it on CD though. If you can find their first record 'When Dream & Day Unite on vinyl you'll have an even more rare LP. I've tried to find those two on vinyl for a while now with no luck. They don't even turn up on e bay.

Schubert Symphony No.9, "The Great". Decca/London CS-6061 Blueback, London Symphony Orch./Josef Krips.
Purchased on eBay, appears Unplayed Mint! Wonderful orchestral sound and staging. Music...well, Schubert was THE great Lieder composer, but symphonies were not his strongest suit (except for his Unfinished, which is Truly Great and leaves one wishing for more).

At the Bristol show I got the first Joanna Newsom LP from Diverse. Later I found the latest Nina Nasasia LP at Stamford Audio for £10 - great price but the guy was such a miserable uninterested *~@{ I didn't bother buying anything else from him.
I got to hear the Joanna Newsom album on a system it's unlikely I'll ever be able to afford - some Clearaudio deck with a Graham Phantom arm and Clearaudio reference cart and a load of Shakti stone nonsense etc. The good news for me was when I took it home I was still able to listen to it - it didn't have as much detail and "air" in my system but considering the disparity of price it didn't sound six times worse :D

I work at an HE college and they have a Record Fair every Tuesday - bloody marvellous! I usually pick up at least a couple of LP's. Today's purchases have been a copy of 'Rock of Ages' - fantastic live album from The Band and 'Teddy Boys Don't Knit' by the late, great and much missed Viv Stanshall. Previous weeks have seen the Bob Dylan-sized hole in my collection having been filled somewhat and replacing some Rush, Pink Floyd and other stuff I sold to buy fags when I was a kid!

Pip pip!
