CT-F2121 Maintenance

Postby chewie » 10 Aug 2012 03:14

I finally got one to go with my PL-112D and SX-450 and they are all 1976!
It supposedly had a wonky meter, but they both work fine from what I have observed.(Seller Ebay pic)

What I did:
I already adjusted the speed and cleaned the heads.
I spotted a part that I need to resolder.
The meter in the picture no longer does that, it works perfectly fine now.

Problem:
The Automatic Stop function does not work.

I know I need to deoxit some stuff, I just haven't done it yet

Now what other kind of maintenance do I need to do?
Do I need to lube/oil any parts (ie; the motor)?
Do I need to replace the belts?
Is there an actual Service Manual for it(I already have the Owner's Manual and Schematic)?
Anything else I should worry about and work on(outside of a recap)?
How do I fix the Auto Stop function?

Thanks for any help! :)

Clean the heads, and demagnetize them.
The places I have had to oil in a tapedeck are the pinch roller and the capstan/flywheel bearing.
Check all the belts. Replace if there is any question of them losing their resiliency.
Auto-stop is usually a solenoid triggered by the counter, but I've never had that deck.

Cheers,
Alec
Keep them spinning.

Auto stop is triggered by the counter...... hmmm........... I'll have to take a closer look to see what it does.

Thanks again, Alec.

Some auto stops are triggered by tension or lack thereof on the spool, so when you get to the end, it stops, regardless of what the counter says.
