Paradigm Atom S7's

Postby cat9 » 26 Jul 2012 02:34

Hi all,

Thinking of a secondary system for a small family room and it has been suggested that a Marantz MCR 603 and a pair of Paradigm Atom S7's might be a nice little combo. I presently have a Sony Micro System in there - sounds very mediocre and I would like a nice bump in sound quality in this room.

My main listening room with TT is where the vinyl spins for real listening enjoyment. As stated this is just a secondary locale where I/we sometimes spend our time - especial in winter using the fireplace.

So thoughts??? This would be a big bump up, right? Anyone with any experience with these little Paradigm's?

Much appreciated,

cat9

This is a small space and I don't have a lot of room for larger equipment or speakers. The Atoms along with the Marantz would sit on a small buffet in the room.

For a small room, they will be just fine. Better than many others of similar size, certainly. Don't expect food-massage bass, but I am sure that is not your goal. Over the Sony, you will jump at least two quanta.

Thank-you Peter. As I have done a little more homework these certainly do seem to be well regarded for what they are - a small speaker with limited capacity to shine in all areas.

I have also read good reports about the Wharfedale 9.1 bookshelf speaker. It's discontinued now but I have access to a mint used pair. Any experience or thoughts on these?

Thanks again for your feedback!

Between those two, I would go with the bigger woofer if there is a difference. Otherwise - your choice. Both are far superior to the existing system.

Both the Paradigm and Wharfedale speakers are excellent choices. You might also consider the Infinity Primus P153 or P163, which are very affordable bookshelf speakers that are easy to drive and perform WAY above their pricepoint. Both models also received glowing reviews in the audio press.

Hey guys,

Just to close this off - after a little more research and a very good deal I decided to think a little longer term as far as investment into this secondary system and I purchased (new) Monitor Audio Bronze Series BX2 speakers paired with the new 2013 model Denon CEOL Piccolo DRA-N5 Micro System.

The Denon is on pre-order and should be here in October/November sometime. I'm looking forward to the pairing and access to my entire cd library which I have downloaded to my iMac and of course all the radio stations through iTunes and other sources as well.

This is quite a switch for me - two different worlds with 2 channel analogue TT set up in the living room and all digital in the family room.

Should be fun. Good listening!!
