SL-5/M97LT replacement stylus--vendor?

Postby rletson » 03 May 2012 00:20

It's been so long since I had to buy any parts for my older gear that I no longer know which sellers or aftermarket brands to avoid.

I suspect that it would be a good idea to put a new stylus in the Shure M97LT cartridge I've been using in the SL-5 since I bought it long ago, but I'm not, um, sure whether I should pursue a genuine N97 LT (which the Shure website says is discontinued but available), get one from, say, a vendor like Needle Daddy on eBay ($16.29), or a specialist like LP Gear ($80), or what. Or would it make sense to just go with a new cartridge--I see that AT and Ortofon both seem well thought of hereabouts. (I've been a Shure user since I got my first Dual.)

I should say that I am of an age when "audiophile" means "I can hear the record over my tinnitus."

Thanks.

I'm in the same boat . I have a Shure V 15 LT with a broken stylus .No replacements currently being made . May have to go and buy new cart. Looking at the M97 LT replacement stylus for $80 or new Grado Black for 80. How did you make out with your rig?

Scroll down. The SAS stylus at the bottom is the best you will find.

Cheers,

Jico or getting yours retipped. I choose either option.
