Sony PS-T1 & Cartridge Question!

Hello All!

I just recently picked up a Sony PS-T1 that had a Shure RXP3 Cartridge with no stylist. After reviewing different sites and looking for one to pickup I disconnected the cartridge just to make sure I had the right version (so that I could correctly get the right stylist for it) and noticed that only three of the 4 wire hook ups were connected. I'm guessing that's a problem even before I get my stylist lol, do any of you have any suggestions?

Oh, and I apologize in advance - I'm a serious newbie when it comes to record players. I've just recently picked up the hobby so speaking in newbie English would be a huge help

From the picture it looks like there is no 4th wire lead at all!
You'll need a new lead or better yet, 4 new leads, these look rather sad!

Also the cartridge could be a better one, which you can get for under $100.

Have you hooked this thing up and tried to play it? It looks as it is missing the red wire, which will normally be the right channel signal lead. If you play it through an amp with a phono stage, you will probably have one dead channel, probably the right channel. You might also get hum on the disconnected channel.

Color code is Red= right signal lead, Green= right channel ground, White = Left channel signal lead, Blue= Left channel ground. You can buy a set of headshell wires from Garage A Records for less than $10.00. These will fit most headshells where the wires go over the pins. My advice would be replace the red one first, becasue it's missing, and then pull off the others one by one and replace with same color removed until you have replaced them all.

There are lots of styli, (plural of stylus- Spell checker may have deceived you) You can get one for the cartridge you now have or you can invest in a new and better cartridge. These forums are loaded with guys who love their particular carts, and will recommend them highly, but that's not for this thread. Get the cart hooked up right first.

awesome thank you! when I'm done fixing this one I'll play it for a while and see how it sounds, if it's not to my liking I'll take suggestion about what kind of new cartridge i should consider buying
