Sony cdp-X555es issue

Hi people

I recently found one of these in our local council roadside collection.

Here is the story. It was working for a bit then stopped reading cds altogether. I tokk it to a reapair guy and he had it for a few weeks and said the laser mech needed replacing. Anyway in the meantime i managed tomteach myself a few things about fixing cd players and fixed a couple more that i found.

I went to the repair guy yesterday and he said he couldnt fix it as he couldnt get the part. I was kinda releived as i now wanted to have a go at it myself.

So i took it home, opened the top and plugged it in. Popped in a cd and nothing. No spinning. Guessing the lens migh be dirty i gave it a clean. Nothing. As a last ditch effort i removed the cd drawer from the unit and sprayed the hell out of every electrical bit with the magic anti flux spray.

Then gave the lens a good clean again. Popped the drawer back in and hey presto! Working cd player!

Ahhh, but not in the clear yet. It still skips a bit on some cds when it gets closer to the end of a cd.

Any help on this issue is appreciated.

Try cleaning the old lube / renewing the lubrication on the guide rails that the laser eye travels on. Was able to revive an ADC 16 / 2R player this way.

Good luck.
