denon dl-110 into musical fidelity v-vlps

Postby mattw548 » 06 Jul 2012 23:42

firstly forgive me if this question has come up in the past.

has anyone hooked a dl-110 to the moving coil section of a preamp. I understand that since it is a "high output" moving coil it can be used with mm input. does this mean it could be hooked to the mc in but doesn't have to be, or is it really not recommended? the reason i am asking is i know the cart's internal resistance is 160 ohm, and the mm section of the v-lps is 47kohm and the mc section is 100ohm. i have heard that matching the cart's resistance to the preamp yeilds better imaging, fidelity.... so on. if anyone could shed some light on this in theory and experience please share.

You do not have to use the moving coil input on your phono preamp. It works just fine into the mm input. The DL-110 actually outputs 2.2 mv so the gain is enough
to give adequate volume. I myself have the same combo and it sounds terrific.
Enjoy the music.

Hi, Same here. I use one directly into the mm inputs. Seems odd, but works fine. I also use a Dynavector 10X5 that way. Excellent. The cartridges were designed to work that way. I experimented with lower impedance loading on both and went back to the 47K as it seemed to give the best overall performance.

You will almost certainly overload the MC input as well as losing signal output because of the input impedance of the MC (100ohms?) being lower than the coil impedance (160ohms) of the DL110.

I've had both DL110 and 160 and used into MM 47k and they have worked perfectly.

V-LPS
Input impedance: MM 47K ohm; MC 100 ohm
Input sensitivity: MM 3.5 mV; MC 450 uV for 300 mV out
Total harmonic distortion: MM 0.01%; MC 0.01% @1kHz, 300 mV out
Signal / noise ratio: MM >80 dB; MC >70dB "A" weighted
Input overload margin: MM 15 dB; MC 22 dB

You will overload it.

thanks for the replys. i've been using it with the mm input for several months and love it. i was just tempted to try the mc input and figured i'd ask the pro's before i did damage.
