Trouble aligning Shure M97xE in Technics SL-23

Postby cam42 » 06 Jul 2012 23:31

In what is probably the last of my issues with the Technics SL-23, I have bought a replacement cartridge. I managed to install it in the headshell, but I cannot get it to align properly with the protractor supplied with the cartridge. Should I be using the Technics Arc Protractor for the SL-23 as opposed to the one supplied by Shure? Is there another protractor somewhere I should use?

do you use a technics overhang gauge? you want 52mm overhang and you definitely should use the one supplied with the cartridge since why would it be supplied if you couldn't use it? :D

I don't have a Technics overhang gauge. I might have to find one somewhere, though.

I did get the cartridge pretty close, and it sounds alright playing a record now.

I believe SL-23 tonearm is slightly shorter than the typical 215 pivot-to-spindle Technics arms. This means Technics Arc Protractor won't work.

Try "Stupid Baerwald protractor" and see where it takes you.
