on level ground

Postby lustman » 28 Mar 2011 15:30

Free the sound !!!

I removed the felt mat that restrain the sound

i glue two cd and put a silky material (to protect vinyl)
The sound is clear, better stereo and instruments,
and first of all, i have a pleasure to listen music again

The rega felt mat is not a good stuff for the vinyl

Thanks, Lustman! It's at the shop right now - I'll have it back on Wednesday > I'm going to just leave the Nagaoka MP110 on it. You're trying some very interesting things. I don't know if they'd work with my glass platter.

Lustman, I forgot to ask you if you are still using a towel under your table.

No i remove the isolation, it worked well with the Ortophon om5
but not with the stanton 500, the sound is too enclosed with isolation and this cartridge.
the stanton is bassier than the ortofon.

I have a ClearAudioHarmonicer on my P25. I can recommend it. Cart is a Benz ACE L.
Better than the P9 Mat or a Ringmat which i tried before.

@ Sandbah 92

Just try the white belt on my rp1

And it's definitly more accurate at all levels,
treeble don't go away anymore, medium is richer, great bass
better sound stage too.

Glad you like the white belt, Lustman! My p1 is singing away with the white and the MP110. Bass is nice and punchy, too!

I bought my RP1 about 3 months ago and had the dealer fit an almost new AT120e that I had. I must say when I first used the TT it sounded ok but as the hours of play built up the sound got better and better.

Then after reading some posts about leaving the lid up - tried that and wow what a difference.

Yes, it's truly amazing what a difference it makes with the TT cover out of the mix!
Must be the cheapest of upgrades!

I have a Yamaha ax550 + Jmlab 715
My sound with the Ortofon OM5 is clear and really good in the treble
But i have a lack of in the Bass medium and in the bass.

I search a good catridge to keep the qualities of the om5 with more bass

what about grado gold? hum with the rp1 ?

What is your choise for your turntable

Thanks

You still looking for suggestions on cartridges (not sure as the thread seemed to take a different turn)? It depends on how much you'd like to spend. In the entry level range, I loved the Ortofon 2M Red on my hot-rodded P1. A solid performer all around and surprisingly so for the price. It beat the pants off the stock cartridge. It also beats a Grado black/green any day of the week.

On the way to upgrading to my current P5, however, I picked up a Dynavector 10x5, which at $450 through most vendors now is quite a different price class and nearly the cost of the RP1 itself. I was worried that the cartridge would outclass this table but it didn't. You can read my impression and comparison with the Sumiko Blue Point No. 2 here: http://www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=39687

This was written with my P1 as the table, not my current P5. I include a bit more about my setup in the post as well.
