Not really "better" so much as I am less critical... And I agree on either very good bourbon or single-malt. Problem with single-malt in the US is that even the bad stuff is expensive. Bourbon, on the other hand, need not be expensive to be very, very good. Good bourbon (as with good single malt) leaves no head either.
Less critical: A poorly recorded piece will become marginally more listenable through a bit of lubrication. And a well-recorded piece may become sublime. Downside is that I am a cheap drunk - the spread between warm and asleep is narrow.
