I've just caught up with you're escapades - very enlightening, excellent photo's too.
Useful to see how the plinth fits on the P5 - only ever seen one in the store - and it'd be considered rude to start dismantling them
So the frame pieces just push in - is it a loose fit? or is there some rubber type material to give grip/ or a screw fit.

Am I right in thinking that the P25 plinth is a bit different in as much as it's a complete frame (4 sides) with the metal rods to hold it in place - someone else may have the answer to that.

Can't wait to see what the secret material turns out to be - keep up the good work...

I got the Cardas Re-wire kit today.
The P5 sounds so good I don't want to mess with it.
Maybe I'll wait till I break a clip.

You'll definitely get more information with the Cardas wire. More ambient cues, better bass extension. Top end isn't perfect, but to my ears better than rolled off and masking or losing detail. But you know this already, the wire has great specs, it's likely just a smaller performance gap than you heard with the lesser arms...

Yup, Alec! That is why I had to order a new wooden frame for my P5 too.
Wooden sounds best, go figure.

I have the same P5 as yours, also thinking about getting the frame off. I have taken a look at the frame, and couldn't figure out how to get the frame off the plinth. Can you advise how you did it?

@RoDa: the DIY thread on the record cleaner is 22 pages long. Can you tell me if there's a design they finally settled on, and maybe a source for some of those parts, like the shaped plastic, the discs, motor and bath?
