POW! An original V-15, on the Empire (model #?). That's a nostalgic blast from the past!
Thanks,

Hey b50,
It's an Empire 398 from 1962. I found it at a local thrift store, it just needed a belt. It had a Shure M111E (p-mount w/ adapter) which didn't look quite right so I installed my V15 type 1. Sounds and looks great. :D

Hi,

try to find a VMS-20 or a VMS-30, or even better, a M-20E Super!

Does anyone know who made this cartridge?
I believe it is a ceramic one?

Hi

They both have nude diamond styli, rather than the VMS10's bushed elliptical, giving lower moving-mass. The 20E is an elliptical, while the 30 is a "Fineline" line-contact type.

The only problem with them is that they are much higher compliance, if my experience with the VMS20E is any guide. This means a low-mass arm is really a necessity, at least for that model.

Yes Mark that explains. When i used it on my Rega RB600 arm it sounded lost. The bass was very light and it sounded like it was very low output. Whereas on the Thorens tp-16 arm which is quite loss mass it sounded much more at home. Still didnt like it though, its a cheap cartridge and sounds like... er......a cheap cartridge!

My latest cart - Grace F10L on a Rega RB 200 / Thorens 160B MkII.
A nice sounding cart, a little bright but may soften.
