Debut Carbon and Speed Box II

I just bought a Debut Carbon the other day (love it so far), and am curious about the Speed Box. I did some reading, and found one mention on this forum somewhere that the Carbon is not compatible with the SB II. I was not able to find any other mention of this anywhere, so I thought I would start a thread to confirm that they do indeed work together.. especially since I already ordered one from Needle Doctor. The Pro-Ject site does not mention the Carbon on the SB page at all, so I think it is not up to date.

So I own the SB II and the carbon and they work perfectly together (so far). Here is the catch. The max output for the SB II is 3W and the Carbons consumption is rated at 4,5W. I have tested it with a strobe and it is solid. Will it put stress on the SB II over time? I am not sure... So I shot an email off to the folks at Pro-ject to ask their recommendation.

I believe that is a mis-print in the Debut Carbon owner's manual - I'm confirming with Pro-Ject on that.

Thanks for the update! I hope it works out, as I am far too lazy to lift the platter every time I want to change speeds. I have way too many 45rpm 12"s and EPs.

Sorry guys but the Speedbox will definitely NOT work with the Carbon series as it was designed to work at 16V (with wall wort power supplies) and the new models are mains fed.

The upside is that the Carbon models have greater speed stability and you can also use the Speedbox S/E as this works at mains voltage, you also have the advantage of a 10% speed adjustment for older records with the S/E Speedbox.

I've mailed Pro-ject's CEO to check. The whole idea of the new motor etc. was to comply with new 1 watt standy EU regulations. Of course, in the US you don't need worry about such trivia. I'll post as soon as I hear from Pro-ject.

Thanks. I called the local dealer from whom I purchased the Carbon, and they confirmed with Sumiko that it is indeed compatible. Hopefully Pro-Ject agrees

Pro-Ject forwarded my email to Sumiko, and they confirmed that the specs in the manual refer only to the European version. I also got my SBII yesterday, and it seems to work fine.

Good to hear. Mine (US version) has been running strong now for a few weeks with out any issue. Also I continually test it for over heating durring long sessions and hit it with a strobe to se if it is slowing down at all.

I am happy to confirm the following;

EU models are 220/240V and CANNOT be used with the Speedbox.
US models are still operating at 16V so ARE compatible with the speedbox.

I am using an EU models of Debut Carbon Esprit (220V). I think it should not be compatible with the Speed Box II. Are there any speed controller in the market that I can use to control the speed of my turntable?
