I think the Denon DL-301 II is a winner. Going for $329. Might be found for less.

Cheers,
Alec

Remember when you listen to this, Youtube Compresses the hell out of it and its not even close to what's going on in my living room. I also have a Denon 103R and a 103D. The denon 103D is being sent to get a Line Contact stylus on a Ruby Cantilever.

Took a look at a few of your videos. How hard was the body replacement for the 103? Also, what are those output tubes on your amp?

Removing the Body was really easy but I've heard of people breaking their stylus. Have no idea how..

Source for the Benz Says they are now $350.

Maybe not as it seems they are selling their phono stages.

Price may have gone up since I got mine last year was $375 then.

Far more neutral and much better detail. Quite a surprise. Far better on strings and female vocals than I have ever heard from a Grado

Yes, very true of the Platinum, but to me it holds back on letting dynamics out of the bag. I will agree very few do female vocals any better and it does put lovely space around voices. very much a classical or jazz cartridge where it excels. Too single minded for my liking and not enough versatility.

And looks like a wooden pencil-sharpener in a slick box. Very nice in its own rights though. Not a LOMC though.

Go with the OC9 if you feel your system can take it.

Yes --- not a LOMC. And the looks do take a bit to get used to. :)

Audio Technica AT-OC9ML/II FOR $399 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o

You can't get it for 399 GB Pounds Sterling in the UK :( :(

BUY IT NOW!
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair (Douglas Adams).

The 33EV is supposedly warmer in tone compared to the OC9/II.

Wow, thanks for the ebay links. Wish I could do it right now, but alas... Particularly the 33EV, though the seller has only 4 feedbacks so far. I've had decent luck on ebay (other than turntable shipping) so far, but I still get nervous. Anyone care to weight in on the 33EV vs the OC9? Is it just a matter of warmth vs detail/speed, or is there more to consider?

I think that the AT33-EV is considered the better cartridge-I've never heard one, but I understand that is has a darker more refined character. I owned an OC9-MLii for several years and it is a wonderful cartridge.

The OC9 has a solid boron cantilever - less prone to be bent than the hollow aluminum on the AT33-EV but probably higher mass so may not be as quick, just another consideration. I own the OC9 but not the AT33-EV. I don't think you can go wrong either way soundwise, for the prices above.

PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT THE SELLER, NEITHER KNOW HIM!

Neither of those are new if you read the description. The AT33 has been mounted and played, the AT-OC9 is described as used with 'less than 500 hours'.

I would second the Denon 301 Mrk II, if available, as suggested earlier by Alex.
Cannot fault it.
