Eddie Hazel's cover of CALIFORNIA DREAMING is everything a cover should be- totally re-thought and re-constructed into a psychadelic blues song, fits lyrics to a tee. Not recognizable until the lyrics kick in ALL THE LEAVES ARE BROWN, AND THE SKY IS GREY...Outplays Hendrix. Amazing.

Sonic Youth version of Neil Young's Computer Age (al. Trans) has more similarity to the live version of that song:

There are few tribute to Townes Van Zandt albums, but there is the one that I prefer among the others: There`s A Hole In Heaven Where Some Sin Slips Through, cd/dbl lp for Glitterhouse Records, 2007.

Album offers an eclectic choice of performers: Steve Wynn, Jim White, Ben Weaver, David Munyon, Johnny Dowd, Willard Grant Conspiracy, and, of course Chriss and Carla (when covering Nothin'), or should I say The Walkabouts (when playing furious version of Snake Mountain Blues).

Great choice! I have the single at home, with Los Straitjackets cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit on the flip. It's not as strong as the SCOTS side, but still a lot of fun.

Speaking of Southern Culture on the Skids, the entire Countrypolitan Favorites covers album is pretty great! Here's one of my favorites:

As for Los Straitjackets, they're no slouches either! This is the only way I can stomach a Celine Dion tune! :

I know it's only rock & roll, but I like it.

Don't have that single, but heard Teen Spirit cover.
You are right, it is not a Straitjacket's best moment.

Al Green's original was a completely different animal. Stroke of genius

The Al Green version is a cover as well. Original release was by Syl Johnson.

My vote for best cover version goes to: Willie DeVille for his wonderfully inspired, Mariachi take of "Hey Joe".
