It's hard to tell from the picture but the armwand looks duller than the matte silver finish on the RB-700.
Regarding the 3 holes in the plinth. When Rega pre-drills the holes for the screws, they don't countersink the holes so what happens is they install the arm and tighten the 3 screws. Everything is fine until you remove the arm and 3 screws for the first time and the holes expand at the very top and basically raise up.
I always countersink the 3 holes but I have the tools, you probably don't, but you could just take a larger size drill and spin it by hand to remove the raised area around the hole. That's my recommendation to fix your problem. After you do that, the arm will sit flush.

BTW, respectfully, you should post this on a new thread. :)

Hi.

Thanks for you suggestion. So the raised screw holes is normal? Your right I haven't for any tool for fixing it. Is there anything that a layman could do to sort it like sand it down maybe?

Sorry yeah I wasn't thinking about posting here. I was just thinking that loads of P5 users come in here so they would get to see it.

I apologise.

Good work Roda. Love the blue plinth colour.

Keep it coming.

This thread is an inspiration!

Thanks guys!

I may not have been that smart to ruin the original frame, but if all goes bad I will have to buy a brand new frame...

I cannot understand why Rega made the corners like this on the frame.
Some say damping, but when the frame parts are bolted to the plinth this makes no sense.

My new frame will be a one-piece covering all three sides.
Still not too shure about colour/finish, but I will try a few different ones before the final design.

Maybe I'll have to learn google sketchup to visualize different shapes....?

I think they did the corners that way to allow for "manufacturing tolerance" i.e. errors in the parts.

In order for the miters to be tight, the angle must be exactly 45 degrees and the lengths must also be exact. Using something soft in the corners allows a tiny bit of allowance for imperfections. Also, solid wood undergoes expansion/contraction with the seasons. If they were glued up tight at the wrong time of year, there could be huge cracks in the wood or huge gaps at the miters. The MDF/particle board is more stable and does not move nearly as much with humidity changes.

Or maybe it's for damping...

"manufacturing tolerance" sounds like a good explanation.
...or it would be if Rega didn't have the P25 and P9 ... :D :D

I just got a piece of wood to try to make perfect corners myself...and to see how a square frame looks.

Hi Roda.

Does it sound any different without the rubber in the corners?

I read about a guy that took the wood off his P9 because he said it sounded better.

Did you try a record without the surround?

Sorry, haven't listened to it since I tried this "customization".
My amp is away to be repaired.

Hi Rolf, love this thread, reading your journey with your P5 and mods, GREAT PHOTO's !!
The one thing I'm truly surprised you haven't done, or at the very least tried, is to pop the stylus protector off the Rondo Blue ! I have the Rondo Bronze, and the difference with that thing taken off isn't subtle. So, gently pop it off from one side, and it will easily come off. Re-adjust your tracking force.. and take a listen. I think you'll wish you had done it a couple of years ago !
Cheers !

Thanks Double D :)

I've heard about that tweak, but never got around to do it.
Feels kinda safe using the protector when there are crazy kids around...

But I'll try it for shure, my amp is on the way back home from repairs, so soon there are more picts and tales. ;)

Regrets........

I find myself missing the organic look of the original wooden frame. :(
So today I placed an order with analogueseduction for a new one.

At the same time I'm making a new wooden frame myself to check out a new design.
SpongeBob SquarePants edition ;)

The other new frame (secret material) is still in the designphase...
But when it's reaches the productionphase it will be finished very quickly. :)

Oh no, not cheap.
I got the Cardas Re-wire kit today.
The P5 sounds so good I don't want to mess with it.
Maybe I'll wait till I break a clip.
