aOn the topic of cables and cost, I actually just priced out some DIY cables I need to put together for my 36U AV rack. It came out to $3.34 USD per foot for the DIY cables, which was $99.60 for 30 feet worth of 7 RCA cables (7 pair L+R)
That's using Blue jean Cable LC-1 RG-59 coax, gold-plated connector/black chromium RCA soldered plugs, black and red heat shrink tubing, and 1/4" and 1/2" techflex sleeving for dressing them up so they look all fancy, not that anybody will see them locked inside an AV rack.. but hey, why not?
I needed to make 7 cable pair ranging from 10' to 1.5' each, all custom cut to fit so I don't have excess cable to coil and tuck when routing it.
I've done twisted pair fine silver interconnects, too that didn't cost me that much more to make. I can't imagine that Kimber, Ixos, Transparent, Cardas, or any other cable company selling cables for hundreds of dollars per meter would have anything that sounds audibly better. It just seems nuts to me to spend that much for speaker cable and interconnects.

these were a couple of speaker cables I made recently for my KEFs. the bi-amp cable has 12AWG conductors, and the 2-conductor cable is 8AWG per.
