G'day again James... :)

I bought the DP-60M a couple of months ago after spotting an online Ad for it. It is in absolutely terrific condition and obviously has experienced very little use. I've arranged to have all of the Electrolytic Capacitors replaced with HiQ replacements via a local technician. I'll also get him to solder all of the wire-twist connections too, even though they look like new, it's one less thing to worry about.

When I get it back, I'll put a CRO on the Motor Speed test-points and make what ever adjustments are dictated by the results. After that, it will take pride of place and start work playing through the several hundred records I've managed to collect over the decades. Gonna be fun.... :D

I actually started my vinyl habit in the mid 60s and carried this through until the mid 80s when CDs made their tumultuous début. Like a lot of fellow VE-ers though, I became disenchanted with the output quality of the vast majority of CDs and decided to drag out all of my analogue gear again. I've got a couple of Sugden BD-103s, one with a fairly unique Jelco 266mm EL Tonearm fitted which has always sounded very nice (to me), a small collection of cartridges which still work well after all this time. Also bought one of the SAE 1000LT HOMC cartridges recently, that was being given high marks by several owners here and elsewhere. I can only concur with what other owners have said about this beauty - I love it.

That's my brief history James; hope I haven't bored you to tears though mate

Will definitely report back once the DP-60M is up and running, with what ever cartridge I end up fixing to it. It's all a lot of fun, I must say... 8)

You take care too mate.

Cheers,
Mal.

Well....

An opportunity came up to purchase a used but little played Ortofon MC20 Super II and because of its excellent condition, decided to buy it. From everything I've been able to read about it, from respected and reputable reviewers, I really have something to be excited about.

The wait begins.... :-D

Good on ya Mal!! I too have read good things about that cart from some on this Forum. So is the 301/304 debate still on or did this settle that?

Gotta give us some listening feedback when you have a chance.

Good luck,

james

G'day James... :)

Yes mate, this deal kind of kills off the option to buy a 301/304 - Don't have enough pennies unfortunately, wish I did.

Will definitely report back once I've had a good listen.

All the best,
Mal.

Hi All,

Finally the 301 made its way to Winnipeg - I was beginning to think that maybe it got lost in the mail or ripped off at Customs (both happen). But it arrived safely and now the TT is in the shop for a once over and cart install/align.

I am looking forward to having a listen and after an appropriate break-in period giving some listening impressions.

Good listening,

Well... \:D/

I am very, very happy with the performance of my recently acquired Ortofon MC-20 Super MkII.

Don't have it mounted on the DP-60M yet, but that's where it's going to reside once I have the TT back and ready to go.

The cartridge seems to have been rarely used by the previous owner, as it seems to be improving in performance as time goes on - still 'running in', in effect.

The sound is absolutely awesome in my Jelco, so open and detailed; sound-stage and 3D effect is almost bordering on 'uncanny' in its realism; excellent bass and beautifully controlled; plus, a mid-range that seemingly immerses you directly into the performance. Really loving the cartridge and can't wait to get it set up in the 60M next month some time.

Very happy chappy.... :D 8)

The TT has landed - I just got it home today. The shop where I had the work done said I really lucked out with this "old" table - he said the original owner took extremely good care of the table. The capacitors had already been replaced with quality replacements and he said everything inside was immaculate. He made a few slight adjustments here and there and, of course, installed and properly aligned the new cart. I can't wait to have a listen.

I will provide some initial thoughts soon.

Good listening!

Well I am about 20 lp's in with the restored deck and newly installed 301MKII. For those who recommended this cart - I wish to say "Thanks"!! You didn't steer me wrong.

Detail, detail, detail / full soundstage / great separation / pulls so much more out of those record grooves than my old set-up did / it's like someone snuck into my home while the table was in the shop and re-recorded all my lp's .....I am very pleased and looking forward to methodically moving through my record collection and being surprised with what I hear - in a good way.

This ends this thread for me - Good listening!
