Postby conaway » 17 May 2012 03:25

I need to rewire the tonearm on a TX turntable, and just discovered today that welbourne labs no longer carries the cardas 33awg tonearm wire. Does anyone know of an alternate source ?

KAB is not cheaper per foot (PartsConnexion is $9.75/ft which would be $34.13 for 3.5 feet vs. $54.95 for an equivalent length at KAB).
However, KAB tins the ends for you and terminates in RCAs... although I don't like the looks of their RCAs (persnickety).
Probably is a wash if you take into account the extra work to work with litz, fully shield the cable, and provide higher quality RCAs. Oh and the international charges to pay in CND.

I was referring to the tonearm wire at $4.80 a ft., thinner then the PartsConnexion stuff which I have also purchased in the past. Look further down the page on KABs website.

"Cardas Tonearm Wire. This is the fine teflon coated 6 strands of pure litz copper. Sold buy the foot in sets of 4. $4.80 L/ft.
Coded Red, Green, Blue, and White.
These wires are thinner overall than the wires of the Cardas tonearm cable below.
KAB only recomends these wires for tonearm rewiring, especially, if you are planning on tracking below 2 grams." KAB.
