@gabriel1998:
Since the hum phenomenon is not related to ground loops but immanent due to the fact that a synchronous AC motor is generating a stray field which is being collected by the MM cartridge, there is no need for a ground lift switch at your phono stage...

Changing to a DC motor or using a MC cartridge e.g. Rega Apheta would help here!

Thanks for the info guys. I'll pass it on. My friend sent his P7 to Dallas for a P9 motor and MU metal shield upgrade so I'm interested to see if that attenuates the hum. From what I have read here it sounds like it might be good to change to a MC too. Since he just bought the unit with a new Exact, I figure he'll run it as is for a while. This brings up a question- Can the shield be added to other models or is it only possible on the P7? Anyone try this?

@GR350: The mu-metal shield should be mounted easily to the less expensive Rega models as well. What is the price for the shield and where to buy? Any info is welcomed!

@GR350: The Rega P7/P9 motors are identical! No need to change! AFAIK the P7 also already owns the Mu-Metal shield, can someone confirm please? IMHO the difference is the ceramic platter and the wooden plinth.
