found a Dual 510, but how much is it worth?

Hi! I went down to my local thrift store today and found a Dual 510 TT without a dustcover. It does look its age, dusty and have seen use but can be restored to a good look again. It has a Shure cartridge but i didnt have time to check wich one.
My concern here is the price, at 500 Norwegian kroner wich is about 85$ us. I think i can barter it down to 50$ if i am lucky. Is it worth buying and what should i check for in the store?

Ole: The 510 actually was a pretty good Dual - one of their most attractive classic belt-drive models, I'd say. Stock cartridge used to be the Shure M95G. For a used exemplar without hood and in need of maintenance I'd also deem 66 Euro a bit too much, though - but if you can haggle the dealer down to below 50 Euro, the price would seem pretty fair to me. What you should check: whether it works at all; whether the strobe lamp still works; whether the pitch control still works; whether it still auto-lifts and stops at the end of a record; and it also wouldn't harm to balance the arm with tracking force and anti-skating turned to 0, let the arm "hover" near the platter spindle and then increase anti-skating to 0.5: If that's sufficient to pull the arm back to the rest in one jerkless motion, the arm bearings should still be ok...

Things turned out better than expected!
I went down there, but there was faults with the turntable. The arm will not lower itself when i pull the lever and autoreturn does not work. and the needle is missing. I pointed out the faults to the boss there and he said: If you can fix it you can have it.
So now i have a little project on my hands!

Seems like the cartridge are really crooked, is it supposed to sit like this?

The cartridge should be parallel to the record.

I agree with Alec, don't buy a new stylus until you figure out the problem with that tonearm!! Glenn.

A New Stylus was ordered when I first got it... I am going to check out the arm tomorrow. Hopefully this can be sorted without changing the entire arm...

Hey Brekken, how did you end up with your Dual? It looks nice (except that cartridge holder). Is this real wood case?
I got also one yesterday, that is pretty well and working out of the box. Just need to replace the signal wires or add cinch connectors at the back. For the moment I'm very pleased with this what I got for about 60 Euros!
