Trying to get the geometry correct..???

Curved at the front..An additional silver weight that is bigger than the cartridge itself that completely obscures,,your vision..cartridge bolts that you have to grip the side of the cartridge,,therefore putting it askew again..Doh!!!

At first I thought the cantilever was squint..Not so sure now..I always seem to go through that one.Time will tell,,It is on my turntable and making music..Must admit the Shure M97xe seems easy to align compared to this nightmare..

Any tips on alignment from fans..I tend to look from above to a grid..It came with a dummy perspex shell..But Does that take into consideration the slight gap caused by the small ring before the shell starts..I guess it works on a Denon headshell..

I've got it on my Kenwood KD7010...I've put it in an Altai headshell...The arm on the Kenwood seems closer to a 10 inch than a nine from the pivot..I have taken off the thin silver weight attachment..I have also taken off the flip down stylus guard..Made attempted alignment easier..

Bear in mind I'm a fussy b****r,,

After calming down a bit,,I realise that if mounting in a Rega arm say..It would be so much easier..More the headshell that is a pain in the bum methinks...
It sounds nice..The treble is quite beguiling..I am running it at 2 grams for now..

Well the Shure M97Xe arrived too..I'm using a stylus I put maybe 30 hours on before..One of the lugs snapped of the old cartridge,,So it is a new generator unit,,,,It sounds a bit forward in the upper mid to treble region..This one I put on the ADC headshell..It doesn't sound rolled off in the treble on this turntable I don't think..

More pictures..I am bothered about the Denon Skating inwards and the alignment..

Under Tools, at the top, Alignment Protractors.
That "dummy shell" is a gauge, that will let you quickly set the mounting distance in your headshell.
The weight is only 1/2 gram.

Cheers,
Alec

Hi Alec,, :D Thanks for your post..

I get that the dummy shell is a gauge,,but when I look at the overhang spec for the turntable arm I am using..It says 15mm,,I have seen 18mm for I think it may be Thorens,,am I reading the wrong figures ?? have I got completely the wrong idea..

IMO...you never align a cartridge with the cartridge body as anything but something to grab and adjust. The best thing is to always align the cartridge using the cantilever to align to the pattern on your template.

If you cannot see the cantilever one of those magnifying lighted things on an articulated arm is very handy.

Aligning a cartridge using the cartridge body assumes that the cantilever is properly aligned within the cartridge body and also allows for things like the body's shape to throw you off. Its a bad habit I know we all have but it doesn't help.

If you use the cantilever to align the cartridge you will get more consistent and repeatable results.
