I have one of those throw away 2 inch paint brushes you get at Home Depot in my record cleaning kit. They are natural bristle (from what I dont know) but when they get wet they get softer. I have an old boar hair shaving brush in the kit too and I swear its got to be the same bristle. Both do a great job cleaning records. Even better if I use a microfiber towel afterward.

By the way, I got my good shaving brush, a cup of handpacked soap and an old Filarmonica razor I inherited from my dad. I put on a good album, relax and take my sweet time having a good shave.

For years I've had a pig bristle brush I got at the PX and it has always satisfied me. I tried when I first got it to clean my records with it and was, of course, very disappointed by the results. It just piled any dust where I took the brush off the record. It works well for dusting surfaces where nothing else will reach though.

I do the same here with some records that have already been 'cleaned' The brush seems to agitate crap from the grooves and when I then use the slightly damp microfibre cloth you can see the dirt that comes off. I have been quite surprised at the amount of dirt that shows on the cloth sometimes.

I use one of those rouge brushes too and also a carbon fiber brush. I perfer the carbon fiber since it seems to resist a magnetic charge getter. The other brush is fine for dusting lenses and whatnot, though.

I also use a straight razor and learned the way most guys who use one probably did-on my own neck. I first used it an twitched a little with my wrist and watch the blood flow from the shallw gash I put in my neck. I looked at the razor and thought, "I just spent umpteen dollars on this fine razor and strop. Now what do I do?" answer: I learned real quickly how to use it properly. I got so good I was able to shave a very scrawny man for open heart surgery (neck to ankles) with an unguarded straight razor, and the guy had the hiccups. Not a nick on him.Put one of those surgical clippers in my hand and I can draw more blood than a vampire on spring break. #-o

I have found that the brush is improved by winding a rubber band tightly round the tip which compacts the bristles tighter. I do this for both the shaving brush and blusher brush.

Hard to believe that around 16 months ago my records and turntable were in the attic - and I would never have though about buying a make up/blusher brush!
