I must admit I don´t really know what we really mean by 'transparent'. Is it a very low noise floor or is it very low distortion we mean. Or is it a window into the music where less sound reflections and loobings play a part, or something else.

When tonal balance and bass are correct imho transparency talks about resolution and definition (harmonics and timbre separation). If you don't understand these you don"t have it

Some questions: tonal balance in your analysis doesn't include bass (I get this by simple analysis of your sentence structure - if this is incorrect, let me know). If tonal balance doesn't include consideration of 'bass' what does it include?

Following on from that, it seems to be your opinion that transparency has a particular meaning in a particular circumstance (once tonal balance and bass are "correct"). Without really wanting to quibble about that definition, can you tell me what the definition of transparency would be in different circumstances?

It may seem that I am being picky, but the language we use HAS to have a commonality of meaning before any intelligent comment and discussion can begin - one of my points in my earlier post.

Tonal balance includes imho bass. Good or linear tonal balance goes from bass to highs...

The Furutech AG12 is an excellent cable (by the way it has silver plated conductors and not pure silver). It is really hard to beat with in its price range.
I have never tried the D501 silver but I have read lots of mixed reviews about it and know lots of people got rid of it sooner or later.

A few weeks back i put a post under the DIY section on making a turntable phono cable. I used a Van Damme instrument cable with a silver plated core, its quite slim and very flexible, quite low capacitance and costs £1.35 a metre! I fitted Neutric plugs with silver solder and heat shrink. The result? A cable that costs about £8.50 and that it lets every bit of music through. The post is still at the top of the page on DIY and explains in more detail, there is close up photo further on in the 'DIY CABLE RECOMENDATION' post . Forget spending $500 dollars on a cable thats crazy!
