Hi guys
just saved this turntable from a visit to the local skip,in really great condition, checked it out and its all working fine, came with an audio technica AT2300VX alas the stylus is broken, couple of questions if I may

Was it worth saving and would it be worth spending £100+ on a new cart
any cart recommendations would be great too
I use a RPM5 9cc arm Ortofon Blue currently
Just wondered if how it would stack up against modern £500 decks

Welcome to VE....... :) :)

And well done....... =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

A QL Y5F in the skip......  #-o #-o This is definitely worth saving..... :)

The manuals are here:

http://www.vinylengine.com/library/jvc/ql-y5f.shtml

So learn the operation of this beauty, the service manual is insurance to keep your tt in tip top shape....... :) :)

There's some good reading on the JVCs here:

Nothing like an active / servo controlled tonearm.

Good luck.

Fred it's great being green and can handle most all cartridges..... :)

Right now I'm really enjoying the V15V-SAS

The dynavector is "resting"

My favourites (they play musical chairs periodically) - Ortofon/Digitrac 300SE, Shure V15VSAS, Pickering XLZ7500S, Signet TK9E, Audio Technica AT20ss, ADC SuperXLM.

At some time I may settle on a single absolute favourite, but so far that has not happened.

bye for now

Thanks for the feedback, though the Pickering XV-15 D625 resides primarily in the Y55F, know what you mean by "musical chairs"...... :) Looks like I'm gonna have to get an SAS one of these days, however, interested to "hear" how the ADC XLM Mk II in the collection does...... :)

Fred and T/eddysqd. sorry for a bit of hijack..... but have you tried a cartridge on the JVC yet? :) :) and how does she sound..... :-k :-k :-k

Hi all
Well I have been busy,I have stripped and cleaned the arm and table internals and added some mass having read the tweaks on the forum, all reassembled now so am now familiar with the the decks inner workings .
Now the cart,it currently has an aluminium bodied AT2300VX minus the complete stylus but I have found a supplier who has an original new replacement stylus in stock @ £46 plus shipping, the cart seems well liked but I can find little very little info or spec so do I go with that option or just buy a modern cart? If so what cart suggestions please budget about £250

Do you have any photos of the cartridge - AT went through a series of names for cartridges that were in fact identical - and I cannot tell what it is from the model number....
