Headshell for audio technica 1005 II

Postby Thepedddler » 01 May 2012 13:28

Hello ,I like to purchase a new headshell for a vintage 1005 II arm . The arm is in transit . What headshell will fit . I'm a little confused about the 1 guide pin vs 2 guide pins. The shell I'm leaning towards has 2 guide pins but I'm not sure if this will work . Any help? Thanks in advance.

I am not familiar with the 1005, but if it supports 2 guide pins (not all arms do!) - then that provides a better join between headshell and arm, and theoretically reduces the headshell/arm resonance (they tend to have a resonance around 250Hz - the better the connection the lower the resonance!).

2 guide pins is a good thing if your arm can use it. There are only a couple of headshell types out there that have this feature... and those headshells are very well regarded.

bye for now

Any 'standard' (SME) bayonet fit headshell will fit the AT1005. EG:

Great arm by the way and should do you well for years to come. Worth getting a decent headshell such as the Sumiko in the link.

Enjoy

Thanks for your help . I found an image via google and the arm does accept a 2 guide pin connector. So I ordered the lp gear zupreme headshell. I'm building a slate/wood plinth for a lenco l75 with a denon 103r with aluminium body .I hope this effort ends up sounding better then the bone stock lenco ?

I'm sure it will. The AT1005 is very sadly overlooked arm. Very easy to match with a wide range of cartridges and certainly very well made. Sonically, as good as a lot out there, nice solid soundstage. I had one for years and I believe it is still used on a regular basis by some chap over in Spain.

You will find the centre to centre distances are different between the AT and the Lenco, but this should be easily overcome if you are re-building.

A classic bit of kit.

The Audio-Technica ATP-H headshell was what the factory supplied with the tonearm. SME II Improved and Sumiko headshells work superb with the AT tonearms. They are superb tonearms. I own a ATP 16-T and it is my daily driver.
