michell gyrodec papst motor hum

Postby slowlane » 09 Dec 2006 17:41

HI,
it's my first post. I recently changed my flat,
and tuned the system (Gyrodec mkIII + QC) up in new place.
I noticed hum and audible motor friction.
During changes of the motor position hum gets less loud.
The problem appears after turning the motor on.
If the QC supply is on and the motor doesn't work,
the motor's spindle is getting very hot.
I'm affraid of my belt:(

BEst:))

check that the pulley has not been driven down the motor shaft and that the knurled lock ring is tight .a tiny drop of oil under the pulley on the shaft wont go amiss ,keep me informed as to your progress. ray

Thank you very much.
I added a small drop of synthetic oil, tightned the knurled lock
and the hum passed away. Looks to be dead silent,
but on the closer inspection I notice some unrythmic friction
of the pulley in the shaft (specially after turning on).
Did you ever have such problem?

clean the pulley, belt and platter as this sounds like belt slip ,you will allways have some slip on startup till the platter gets up to speed. how old is the belt???

the hum appeared even without belt.
belt, pulley, platter are like new.
at the moment is very silent but still audible.

the strangest is:
1. the motor is off.
2. no belt on the motor pulley.
3. QC is on (green light/33)
4. after about an hour the motor's pulley gets very hot.
I moved from modern house to the old one with very old electrical
installation... maybe it's something wrong. I didn't feel before
some "electricity" on metal parts after touching.
:?
sorry for my english

Hi,are you switching the motor off with the switch on the qc power supply?
If you dont and use the green button on the motor, you will find the motor heats up alarmingly.apparently this is fairly common with qc power supplies, current shorting I believe it is called. So remember always use the
qc on/off switch

Thank you Ray & Tom!
The problem is definitely fixed.
I lubricated motor bearing and my AC works louder
at the startup, after a while is dead silent.
I will remember to switch the QC off, Michell Eng. wrote me about it too.
