B&o turntables are quite good. If they don't get much love in the audophile community it is probably because they are less "tweekable" than other turntables. They also use a propritary cartridge. B&o no longer supports them so you pretty much have to rely on retippers if your stylus wears out.

I have no idea what it is worth but if it is new in the box I'd guess a lot.

The 1203 is an older style radial-armed turntable, so my guess is it is not as desireable as some of the more famous linear trackers. On the other hand, there are B&O collectors looking for NIB components, and since the 1203 is from the early-mid 70's there probably aren't alot of unused examples out there.

A good resource for vintage B&O equipment is http://www.beophile.com. They have a desirability index they use for all of the components. It ranges from 1-5, 1 being least desirable and 5 being most desirable. The 1203 scores a 3. For comparison, the 4002 scores a 5. I don't agree with all of the rankings, but it is a good point of reference.

I have one sitting in a box doing nothing Kev, mainly because getting the older style B&O carts and stylii at anything approaching a reasonable price is pretty difficult. An SP-10 (spherical) stylus for this table went for over £100 on eBay recently, which gives you some idea.

Hi there,

Do either of you gentlemen still have a beogram 1203 that you want to sell?

If so, would you please let me know price/conditon/details etc?

Cheers

I have a couple of Beogram 3000s which are similar as far as I can tell. They have no phono stage.

One I have owned since new and it is in the middle of a motor transplant surgery.

The other works but has no dust cover. I had loaned it to a friend for many years. The motor is fairly funky. It requires about a 15 minute warm-up to get to speed.

The one which I have owned since new I want to keep, but we can talk of the other one. I have a few motors and I can pick through and include the best one. The machine which I am keeping is getting a brush-less DC motor. I think It's OEM motor is the least funky of the bunch. By the way all of my OEM motors are 120 Volts 60 Hz.

The 3000 is the equivalent of the 1202. This is actually the best of this range, the 1203 being more similar to the 2000. The 'disadvantage' of the 3000 is that it does not have the very stylish platter with pegs that the 1202 and 1203 do. Interestingly, the 2000 had the pegs. The other major difference was that the 2000 and 3000 had opening sprung lids whereas the 1202 and 1203 had a simple lift off one.
The SP12 cartridge is the one to have - the cartridge bodies are the same with the stylus simply slipping off along with the outer casing.
The 1203 is not very valuable, though a mint boxed version clearly will have some appeal. The stylus will be the expensive bit, as previously mentioned.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm only interested in the 1203 model I'm afraid. The stylus isn't a problem as I have a brand new one. If a 'mint' (a very over-used term!) example is available, I will pay top price and arrange for collection.Ideally,I would like the teak plinth.
