One could come up with a thousand great combinations. Here's just one:

Guitar - Robert Fripp (no one else need apply)
Trumpet - Miles
Drums - Bill Bruford
Sitar & Percussion - Collin Walcott
Bass - Hugh Hopper
Keys/Synths - Klaus Schulze

I've never heard of this album. Being an Oregon fan, I'll have to look for this one.

*David Coverdale could also fit in this line-up nicely

Alt Rock:

Guitar: *Tanya Donelly (Throwing Muses/Breeders/Belly)
Guitar: John Squire (Stone Roses)
Bass: Andy Metcalfe (Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians) or Peter Hook (New Order)
Drums: Reni (Stone Roses)

*Bernard Butler (Suede) would be my alternate

Metal:

Guitar: Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden)
Guitar: Glenn Tipton (Judas Priest)
Bass: Geezer Butler (Sabbath)
Drums: John Bonham (LZ)

*Bruce Dickinson or Rob Halford could easily interchange

I've never heard of this album. Being an Oregon fan, I'll have to look for this one.

That's a good album. Also check out Indian sarod virtuoso Vasant Rai with members of Oregon on the Vanguard label. Two albums exist - "Spring Flowers" and "Autumn Song" (both available on a single CD titled "Spring Flowers"). Rare, but well worth finding if you like Indo-jazz fusion and/or Oregon.

I also like Colin Walcott's two solo albums on ECM, "Cloud Dance" and "Grazing Dreams". Colin's rarer ECM collaboration "Dawn Dance" with guitarist Steve Eliovson is also nice, but quite rare. I've only seen the one copy I have.

You can hear samples of Vasant Rai and Oregon here:

Just turn up the volume and click on "Listen to all".

Hey there, newdreams. Thanks for the heads up.

I actually stumbled upon Vasant Rai on Youtube just a few weeks ago and was stunned I'd never heard of him before. I don't have any of his stuff yet, but the albums he did with the guys form Oregon are definitely on my want list!

I do have the Steve Elliovson LP, and it's very nice. I agree it seems to be quite rare, but I managed to get a copy on GEMM pretty easily.
