More E Bay troubles.

Bought a Marantz CD6000OSELE from the bay , it arrived with no remote.
The box had been packed so tight the display is all scratched.
Bought a Santana record that plays with bad distortion , seller is reluctant to reply to E Mails.
I am going off E Bay very very quickly.

Just thought I'd have a moan about it.

I thought that at least I could avoid your problems by going with someone who has loads of positive ratings until I found someone who has very high ratings and still ripped me off. Apparently he delivers records in substandard packaging and then uses insurance to pay for the refund. I was a bit peeved when he responded quite nastily to my negative rating. Maybe we ought to compile a list of sellers who really do deliver the goods here. That could help a lot of us avoid the pitfalls of buying from complete strangers.

In about a 10 day period I got a Dual 1229 with the fancy 3 piece flip up dustcover and the flip down storage plinth, destroyed, A 510, dustcover destroyed and the fake woodgrain damaged because it was packed above the inverted dustcover and fell into it. A 1257 that was well packed but apparently dropped 10 or so feet. Gimbal system broken on this one. Got all my money back tho except for the shipping on one unit so I consider myself pretty lucky. I will never ship a turntable, UPS & USPS try to kill them!! The 1229 had fragile and this end up signs on it, fair game for a coffee break football game. I have sent info to sellers to help them figure out how to pack my shipments, doesn't matter, they're just too heavy to get shipped without damage, especially the dust covers. Glenn.

Well, just as an FYI, I just shipped my Thorens TD224 off to be worked on. I got an email from the guy who said it got there just fine (shipped UPS). He even commented on the pack job.

The biggest problem that I see with TTs being shipped is the inadequate packing.They think you can just put it in a box and put a few peanuts in and ship. It took me most of the day just to pack mine. I used rigid styro (not the white beady crap). Got oversized box and 2 4x8 foot sheets of 2" styrofoam board and set down and proceeded to make a solid styro box with in the cardboard box. I litterally cut the layers of styro to snugly fit the deck. A custom fitted container. NOTHING could move. I took the platter off,put custom fitted blocks under it to hold it up and taped it to the deck in two directions. Took the headshell and weight off the tonearm and bubble wrapped them and made a little cutout for them also.

The cost for all this? around $75 USD for materials and a day's worth of time. Was it worth it? Well it arrived in good condition. (I did have adequate insurance on it also -- just in case ).I almost double boxed it but thought that might be overkill. But maybe not, its not back here working yet. We'll see.

Worst case scenario, a dorm room refrigerator gets tossed on top of your package!!! Ouch!!! Glenn.
