I would not recommend this product and my advise would be to look for something else. Second-hand Musical Fidelity with a phono output would be worth looking at.

I've no experience with Yaqin amps, but the one in your link is line level only so yes, you would also need a phono preamplifier to bring the cartridge output up to line level (eg 2.5mV to 250mV) and apply RIAA equalisation.

Good question !
Why not?

I had a Yaqim for a few months, and the build quality and sound was good.
However, are you sure you want to go down the valve route?
What sound are you looking for, what sort of music do you play?
I've got a valve integrated , a stunning Luxman SQ 38 u, but find when I'm listening to rock and pop, it needs more attack , but great on acoustic and female vocals etc.
I've just recently hooked the pre out to a transistor power amp, so it's being used as a valve phono stage and pre, and to a solid state power amp.
I like this combo!

i do listen to rock a lot. but i know from being a musician that valves are the best for getting the most out of audio. Im buying entry level and ive never had a turntable or valve amps etc so this is a big change and im hopeing to learn a lot from it. i have purchased two items one is this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310396643968? ... 4860wt_947

and the preamp is this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251047791057? ... 1497.l2649

i recon this will be great to start with. what do you think?

Valve amps designed for driving guitars are totally different beasts from the Yaquin you're looking at.
I'd be looking at a valve preamp to be followed by a solid state power amp if you want tight and tuneful bass plus musicality. You can find valve integrates that do both but they'll cost you BIG MONEY. A Musical Fidelity phone pre-amp should also be on your list if you can't find a valve preamp with a phono input on eBay. However, ask anyone selling valve gear on eBay how old the valves are or you could be in for a whole lot more expense replacing aged valves. Good luck.

OOPS ! I'm too late, I just read your last post and realise the horse has bolted already.
The Yaquin phono preamp will probably be excellent but don't expect the integrated to take a firm grip on the bass if you've got speakers that are difficult to drive. I'm sure you'll enjoy the overall sound though.

It will likely be "fatter" than your typical mid-power silicon-based amp - might be exactly what's needed.

Yaqin tube amps are very good. By rolling tubes you can get am even better performance. I auditioned MC-100B e MC-10L and both were pretty nice.

I would listen before spending the dough..... Valve pre and solid state power is a very good suggestion

22 kilos is a lot of amp, you should expect a lot. But KT-88's sound mushy compared to EL84's, or conversely, EL84's have more crunch than KT-88's. The Beatles liked EL84's, Van Halen liked EL34's, put in rock musician terms.Smaller power tubes have more detailed sound , down to the bottom. Larger power tubes sound deep, smooth, and less attack.
No phono stage would also be a deal breaker for me.

Are you're talking about the over-driven character, which is what musicians are usually talking about when judging tube sound? For audio reproduction, we want our amps to be running linear (i.e. not distorted) and, so, I wonder if those characterisations follow.
