What's your holy grail?

Postby Fishtails » 22 Apr 2012 12:26

I saw this topic in the record section and thought it would be a good one for the turntable section.

I think all us vinyl nuts would have something in mind that would be the ultimate turntable to own.

Mine is the pro-ject rpm 5.1. Yummy!!

Sony PS-X9, Nakamichi TX-1000, those would be the sort of kit I'd happily pay $100 for.

VPI Classic 3 or HRX. The pre-production photos of the Classic 4 also look very intriguing.

My Holy Grail would be an Avid Volvere. It may be the only audio component that I think looks so good, I wouldn't even care what it sounded like. I would just watch it and be happy.

Not in this lifetime though.

Hmm? It's not that expensive. Of course it's still a lot to invest for just a turntable, but don't give up! Maybe someday ;)

I've seen and heard about the SMEs, EMTs and whatnot, but my choice is still Technics SL-1200 MK II :D. SP 10 MK II or MK III could be cool, but 1200's are just solid, reliable, good sounding and affordable. I don't mind high-end - it's just that 1200 is enough. I like to focus on music.

Good choice you are missing little as I have one too and will never part with it as it is no worse than the Commonwealth just different :D.

My holy grail...

http://www.thevintageknob.org/kenwood-L-07D.html

or, frankly any of the turntables you can find through the links on the above page.

Having said that I am thoroughly happy with my Sl 150 mk 2 SME 3009 series 2 improved, shure m 97 combo.

well apart from one little niggle that I will post elsewhere.
