Ultimate Cables - Out of business?

snap, crackle and pop

I expect a a parcel to take 2 weeks to cross the Canada-US border. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised, sometimes it takes longer.
On the other hand, I got my PHK record cleaner from Brazil in 7 days.

Cheers,
Alec

I get things from China in less than 10 days. But when you buy something from a manufacturer, you figure they have it in stock and will ship it out within a couple of days, not weeks, if at all. So now I am about 6 weeks into this order.

Alec,
I am originally from Oakville. Who is the high end shop in the area now, and how is the supply of vinyl?

There are a couple of high end shops north of Toronto (I'm in Richmond Hill). American Sound in Richmond Hill and Audio Eden in Newmarket have some nice stuff. Audio Excellence seems a bit pricy.
New records are carried in limited quantities. Sunrise Records has closed several stores, so I don" have one near me. Sally Ann and Value Village occasionally get something interesting, and once in a while, a yard sale has some goodies.

Cheers
Alec

Still no cables, still no response to phone and email. How does one make a fraud or theft complaint in Canada. He is located in Montreal.

Yo duficity:

I hate to make these suggestions, but if Carl cannot give you the cables, he should return the money. My suggestion is to go to the police in Montreal, and tell them that you have a merchant located in Montreal from whom you have ordered and paid for merchandise that has not been delivered, and you want to file a complaint. Ask them the appropriate law enforcement agency to go to. They may take the report, or they may tell you which agency handles such problems. You being out of country, they may ask for an affidavit (sworn statement) with your complaint. I have not been connected with Canadian law enforcement, but this is the general method in U. S.

Your problem is that they may regard this as a civil matter, a breach of contract, and tell you to get a civil attorney and sue the guy. There may be a consumer agency analogous to Better Business Bureau. If you went through Ebay and Paypal, you may have recourse there. I am so sorry to hear about all this difficulty, because I had good results, if slow results, and got a good cable. There is yet another awful possibility here. Carl might be totally incapacitated, or dead. Take a look in Montreal Obits and see if his name comes up. If he is deceased, you would have a claim against estate.

And good luck from the old suggester,

Joe Z.

I left a message on his voice mail over a month ago, and he emailed me the next day. so he's not dead. And his website is still up, accepting orders based on favorable reviews. At the time of his last message, he said he shipped them 2 weeks earlier, insured and he would check with the post office and find out what happened and get back to me the next day. No contact since. And still no cables, more than 2 months after order.
There are at least 8 Carl Barbieri's in the Montreal area. Does anyone have an actual return address from him, maybe on a box or invoice so I can identify the correct person?

I have had similar issues. Ordered some tone-arm cables on the 14th of April still have not received them. I have e-mailed them 3 times since then. Got one reply three weeks ago saying that the cables were sent, and that he would send me a tracking number. Never received the tracking number. It is now the 15th of May and I still have not seen any cables. Stuff does get held up in customs but I ordered belts from another Canadian Vendor those came within a week and a half. Now looking to report the issue to paypal to see if there is buyer protection on the purchase. It is suspicious that their website does not list a phone number in order to reach them. So I am suspecting this company is not entirely on the up and up.

I got an email on Sunday saying that he was going to check with post office to see what happened and let me know next week. He says his son is having medical problems and it doesnt look good. Of course, he said he was checking at the beginning of April too.

I feel for you. I had problems getting a Canadian seller on ebay to send something, 6 weeks and it never arrived. Ebay refunded my money. Sad indictment on some - the world economy must have hit harder than we can imagine.Sad that honesty has been lost.

If you read my previous messages, you would see that I did file a complaint with paypal but was one day late in escalating to and actual claim because he assured me they were on the way the first time, in late March. He only contacted me in late May so he could get a bad review removed from CanuckAudioMart by saying he was working it out with me, but he never did and that was the last communication when he was sending a refund. A refund through paypal is instantaneous. More lies, but since the website is still open and taking orders, I want to make sure no one else gets duped like I did.

wapfu,
The economy in Canada is doing very well, much better than even the US economy. This guy has never mentioned the economy as a reason. He has mentioned a sick son, but I hear he has used that excuse before. And that does stop from issuing a refund. Its simply theft, plain and simple.
