Hi to the Forum,

Firstly I must apologise to everyone who I may or may not have offended or been rude to, This has and never has been my attention and if my late father was still around he would no doubt give me a kick up the behind.

When I restarted the company in 2000 I had an uphill struggle as my father had destroyed all the drawings, jigs, spares, manuals and into a big hole next to the factory in Carlow, Ireland. I must at this point thank all the Transcriptor owners past and present who have sent me copies of information which has helped me a lot.

2011 was a mix bag for me mentally, so I got behind on orders and turntable production and suppliers did not help half of the time, I know that this is no excuse but when you are running a company yourself it is very time consuming.

At the moment I am currently working night shifts to clear the back log so if you need to contact me then you can either email me or call on the number below, if I don't answer, please leave a message on my answering machine and I will get back to you.

Again, may apologies to all concerned....

Best and a Happy New Year

All I got was empty promises. I eventually had to source the parts on e-bay, and would never deal with this man again.
I have had many Transcriptors turntables over the last thirty plus years, and always found David Gammon, the founder, to be superb with his service.
The son does not know the meaning of customer service.
I have the same problems with Michell Gammon.

Re: Any Comments About Transcriptors Turntables

Postby rederikus » 31 Jan 2012 21:00

I too have had bad experience with Michael Gammon of Transcriptors Ltd. I tool my Hydraulic reference Turntable to him in Nottingham in January 2011. We agreed work to be done, new parts to fitted and a price.

In April 2011 Mr. Gammon asked me for the £400 we had agreed. Since I bought my original turntable directly from David Gammon who was Michael’s father and I had met Michael, I paid him.

After about 2 months my turntable was returned to me. Most of the work had been carried out but to workmanship was poor. The brass weights had been polished on a buffing wheel and the marks were plain to see (I can publish photos). There was a detached wire on the reed switch that I had to re-solder.

The turntable was not working since Michael did not supply a drive belt even though I had taken two to him. He did not supply any damping fluid or a new dust cover as we had agreed. He did not even return my old dust cover. My turntable was now not working.

I re-sourced the missing parts un the USA and the supplier I found had also heard of Michael Gammon’s business practices.

I decided to send a partial transcript of my discussions with the US dealer to Michael Gammon and below you will find a copy of this.

I have a complete copy of my correspondence with Michael Gammon who finally stopped responding to emails, SMS texts or phone calls.

I researched his company and found the following data.

TRANSCRIPTORS LIMITED BARNSLEY 0BY01902 07/03/11 £182 Unsatisfied Judgment
UNIT 10, DAYBROOK BUSNIESS CENTRE, DAYBROOK, NOTTS

TRANSCRIPTORS LIMITED EVESHAM 0EV00672 16/07/10 £191 Unsatisfied Judgment
45B BROADFIELDS, CALVERTON, NG14 6JP

TRANSCRIPTORS LTD NORTHAMPTON CCBC 0QT59555 29/06/10 £139 Unsatisfied Judgment
45B BROADFIELDS, CALVERTON, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE, NG14 6JP

17 Dec 2011
Company Returns Overdue
Was: NO
Now: Is Overdue

Based on my own experience I do not recommend anyone deal with this company or this person.

Michael,

I still have not heard from you.

I have just ordered a new dust cover for my turntable. Here is a copy of my email and some of the response. You are getting quite a reputation.

Hi, I bought one of these from you as well as some other Transcriptors Hydraulic Reference Turntable gear last year.

I am now looking for a new plastic dust cover for this turntable. I saw you had one on ebay last year. Do you have any more? If so, how can I get one, please.

I have had a Transcriptors turntable since the 1960s. I bought my original (3 weight device) from David Gammon in London.

I sent my current device to his son, Michael for repair. He did a lousy job, took my money and has never delivered the new dust cover we agreed in the price I paid.

I am not at all happy with him but, most of all I want my turntable back up and running again.

Here is part of the reply from an American dealer

Hi,

I keep hearing about Michael Gammon stiffing his customers after taking money for parts and/or service. Frankly I don't understand how he will stay in business with that attitude.

and my reply to him

As to Michael Gammon, I am compiling information on him and will soon start telling my fully documented story on various websites forums. It is such a shame that he does this because he could have a really great business. There are any number of people like me who have had these turntables for many years and who love them I do not like it when people like Gammon steal my money.

I have now sourced all the necessary parts for my turntable and I have had a similar conversation with a number of other people connected with your late Father's excellent design.

We all think that you are being very foolish to say the least.

What you are doing is very petty and you could have made a lot more money by dealing straight with me. I know two other people with Reference turntables but now, I am doing the work you did so badly myself. I am having the weights gold plated as your Dad did and, I am polishing them correctly and not just jamming them on a buffing wheel as you did.

You should be ashamed of yourself desecrating your Father's works of art as you have with such abysmal workmanship and on top of this you compound the error with your pettiness of not completing agreed work.

You will not here directly from me again but rest assured that our correspondence will be published far and wide.

I know that you lost your house and I hope that you soon get put out of business.

Your ex-friend.

Michael, I do not believe you. I paid you £400 in April 2011 after we had agreed that you would renovate my Hydraulic Reference Turntable. You did do some work. However the quality of what you did was so poor as to shock me that someone could take a piece of engneering and musical art like my turntable. The brass weights seem to have been polished on a buffing wheel. The sharp angles of the original design have been rounded by you and the wheel has gouged small furrows into the brass.

We agreed that you would supply a new dust cover which you never did. You failed also to provide a drive belt and new damping fluid even though I had bough you two drive belts and an original bottle of fluid.

You simply stopped responding to emails, phone calls and SMS text messages once you had shipped the turntable and my SME arm back.

I tried to contact you more that 15 times and you never, ever replied.

I would welcome hearing from you again even though I have now sourced the required parts for my turntable as I would like to know what happened and why your personal troubles caused you to not deliver simple parts.

I read further up in this thread that you had pneumonia. Well, in 2011 I underwent 5 seperate operations on my right knee which was replaced 3 times. I contracted pneumonia as well.

Bit harsh, but warranted I suppose, if you have lost good money. Loosing house must have been due to trying to restart company. Nasty.

I thought everyone knew the only place to get the service for these is:

J.A. Michell Engineering Ltd.
2 Theobald Street, Borehamwood
Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. WD6 4SE
phone: +44.(0208).953.0771
fax: +44.(0208).207.4688

They made a great number (should probably read most) of the Hydraulics there. And they answer the phone. And they are friendly people. And they wear a watch. And if they haven't got the bits, they'll be straight with you.

Good news! Michael recently came into a little money so I'm sure he'll be contacting anyone who was let down during his 'mix bag' year to sort out any issues. I'm not sure if the 10K was Euros, Pounds or Dollars, but at least money isn't a problem now.

Also anyone wondering about Transcriptors after-sales support, Michael says that any customer with issues should 'take me to court'. It's an unusual approach to customer service, but I guess small companies don't always have the resources to deal with complaints directly?

Michael Gammon wrote:I recentley took a web site to court in the Holland and recieved damages in excess of 10k, if any customer has issues then they should take me to court not post slanderous and libel or malicious claims about me or the company.

That may not help much.
A fairly recent check whilst I was in the process of drafting a letter before action showed Transcriptors Ltd to have three unsatisfied SMC judgements against it*

Perhaps some of the money has been used to pay them?

LOL maybe :) If he really cared about his companies reputation he would do his best to sort out the problems rather than threaten websites for letting people publicise them. He's doing himself no favours

More Transcriptor problems

Postby rockdove » 17 Apr 2012 17:16

Hi everyone,
I paid up front back in April 2009 for A new counter weight for Saturn II. He also offered me a new spindle & bearing housing for a reasonable cost. I also on the same order was new wiring for the arm.
Just before I moved house in 2010 I received the Bearing housing only. (i've since misplaced this)
I've left several messages/e-mails from that period to date.
I've had correspondence since Nov 2011 & no calls returned.
I thought it was just me suffering!?
My poor saturn in just sat in a box in bits since I moved.
I'm certainly not a happy bunny.

A typical story about Transcriptors and sad to see yet another unresolved case. Surely they can't be serious about business with so many complaints? A company to steer clear of.
