Greville Records have just picked up someone's record collection, they're selling on consignment. Lots and lots of stuff there and apparently more coming.

This is what I picked up today:

Image

The Zombies: Begin Here

Image

Little Walter: Hate to See You Go

Image

Jethro Tull: Thick as a Brick MFSL Original Master Recording

Image

Cat Stevens: Teaser and the Firecat, another MFSL Original Master Recording.

Hopefully these will sound good.

Plenty of stuff at Greville. If you're into Beefheart then there is a copy of Strictly Personal which you don't see often, unfortunately not a gatefold cover. Fair bit of blues, Muddy Waters Folk Singer on an MFSL pressing. Lot of stuff in good condition if you are in Prahran.

DS
My System: Micro Seiki BL51 Turntable, Stax UA7 Tonearm, RCM Sensor Prelude Phono Stage, Ortofon MC15 Super II Cartridge, Rotel RCD865BX Cd Player, Melody I34R (Astro Black 40) amp and Osborn Epitome Speakers.

Wade Denning - Famous Ghost Stories with Scary Sounds.
Lately I've been into finding records I had as a child and i played this one to death.thirtysome years later I've found out there are actually a lot of people who loved this record.

Image
Grateful Dead - Make Believe Ballroom
a bootleg that eventually was issued officially as a cd,I've wanted this record since my teens. I once found it in a shop for $30 but a friend ridiculed me for wanting to spend that kind of money.
"Why would you buy a record that you already have on cd? That's dumb."
"I still listen to wax. I'm not usin' the CD."

Feeder 'The Singles' - finally after God knows how many years of searching

Pixies - 'Bossanova' - So completely different to Surfa and Doolittle. It's as if Charles Thompson lost his ability to scream.

Time to go see what the new vinyl shop has on offer. Only 5 minutes walk away which is nice - if it ever opens.

Bossanova is my least favorite Pixies album. Doesn't mean it's bad. Enjoy.

That's funny, Bossanova is my favorite Pixies album. I felt that they really expanded their sound on that one.I've never really cared for Trompe Le Monde, though. It just sounds like a band that wasn't all that interested. Maybe it was time. I found Frank Black's solo album and Last Splash to be much more engaging.
I know it's only rock & roll, but I like it.

Just got my Genesis set today. Trespass is on right now, and so far, so good. I've been disappointed in the surface noise of some recent purchases (worse than some of my 20 year old wax) but these seem pretty good. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I've got to pace myself. One album a day, with Lamb slated for Fri night!

Count Basie, "Classics", Columbia CL 754 (compilation of 1940s recordings - clean looking 1950s Six Eye)

Billie Holiday, "Body and Soul", Verve MG V-8187 (1950s pressing)

Bill Evans, "Montreux II", CTI 6004

Quintet of the Hot Club of France (Django Reinhart, Stephane Grappelly), GNP-9001 (Compilation of late 1930s sessions)

Keith Jarrett, "Sprits", ECM 1333/34

Shakti with John McLaughlin, "Natural Elements", Columbia 34980

George Fredrick Handel, "Samson", English Chamber Orchestra directed by Raymond Leppard, RCA Red Seal ARL4-3635 (1980 "small dog" label - originaly on Erato) I suspect would prefer a more HIP-ish performance but we shall see. For $6.00 in NM- condition figure I would give it a shot.

I love that record! I have the first one too. Now I need to find Handful of Beauty.

Anyway, yesterday I bought Donald Fagen's the Nightfly for 98c (super clean!). I don't like the first track as it has been FM'd to death, but the rest plays something like a lost Steely Dan album. Pretty cool.

I say roll on Friday night! Lamb on good vinyl is a real treat! I just love the anger and desperation of In The Cage, the dark humour of Here Comes the Supernatual... and the Englishness of The Chamber of 32 Doors!

One of my favorite haunts for buying used vinyl is any Goodwill store. I buy some regularly and they restock quickly at 99 cents each.

recent purchases are too many to list but the best were several 80s Motown releases as well as a Jascha Heifeitz (world renowned classical violinist) box set by Time Life (1980) MINT in the collector box with pristine vinyl. A whole $1.99 at Goodwill. The money from sales go to a good cause also so that's good.
