Funk Achromat -Is it flat?

Postby horfield » 12 Apr 2012 14:17

I just wonder if there is anyone on out there using Funks Achromat (3 or 5mm) version. Are these dead flat? I sorry to ask this question, but don't have a lot of faith in Arthur and co producing a flat 3mm 'stiff mat'. Anyone's experiences/comments would be helpful.

Hi I have acouple 3mm and 5mm and none of them are dead flat
although they now come with 6 or 8 round double sided pads to
bond them to your platter :o

I've three x5mm mats and all are dead flat and i dont seem to have a problem with them slipping on the vinyl platter either, however   maybe some double sided sticky tape might be worth a try.

One thing worth mentioning though, the Achromat is real easy to mark/damage if you aren't careful when mounting  a disc

It's a bit more than that Abril! :!:

But, it doesn't seem to slip on the platter and does generally improve most records. A few bits of d/s tape might keep it down but would it damage the underside of the Achro if left on for months?

I'm using mine on the Systemdek at the moment so this should be on the other forum [-X

My 5mm Achromat is dead flat, and came with some disks of double-sided tape to keep it fixed to the platter - I would not worry about damage to the surface from carpet-tape-style adhesive; I'm sure it would not affect the surface, and even if it did, it would have no effect on the sound quality.

I use moisturiser cream of all things between the Achromat and the platter. It doesn't damage either, stops the mat from slipping and offers a reasonable degree of non-permanent bonding and it smells nice when I remove the achromat:)
