Then let's hope for your keyboards sake he doesn't show you the all-Rega rack.
Digiman: pleeease? 8)

I am expecting my missing Atacama shelf in a few weeks, so will post some pics of the Rega rack then. The P9 PSU is living a sad life in storage at the moment as the rack is full after Cursa 3 and 2 x Exon 3 moved in with IOS, P9 PSU and the turntable on top.

Hopefully the rack is not to tall with 5 stories of Rega beauty? Time will show :D

Well it's easy for you norwegians with all thoose tax free months!

Literally just picked up my RP6 from my local dealer. Setting it up, I noticed the counterweight does just barely hit the dustcover b/c of the tonearm shim (mine has a Dynavector 10x5 cart). For now I've fixed it by shimming the back of the dustcover w/ some cardboard at that corner...doesn't take much to clear. I guess I'm going to make some little rubber shims of some kind for now. Rega definitely should have given some more clearance. Stock w/ no shim there would still be minimal room.

Come from Roksan Radius V - RP6 thread. I have heard that an upgraded RP3 surpasses out-of-box RP6. Also It is mentioned that an unmodded RP3 with elys differs from RP6 with exact sonically insignificant. I'm not sure what price of upgrading the RP3 is (but it should be large, since I hear that RP6 is cheaper), so now I'm considering comparing the RP3 new from the box vs the radius v acrylic version. A cartridge and phono would be elys and rega fono. Thank you.

Groovetracer subplatter'n'platter will still fit.
You'll only need a taller subplatter if you want to keep the RP6 glass platter.

Damn this thread's taken off! I should come on here more than just once a week...

Yeah obviously the GT sub & platter will fit as a set, but one can't buy just the GT sub for the RP6, which I think is a bit of a shame. I don't think it's Rega's concern though to worry about aftermarket suppliers

It's the same subplatter, with a cap on top of it. Perfectly flat I'm sure it is, but it still sits on top of the good old subplatter, so how it can improve the connection between the platter and vinyl is a mystery to me...

My thoughts exactly sir! The metal hat won't correct any manufacturing deficienies in the plastic sub, and if anything having the sub made up of two pieces introduces more opportunity for error.

What are your thoughts on the new table? Are you liking it so far?

It was my understanding the main reason for the 'metal hat' was to support the added weight of the new platter.

But yeah, I'm with Drumhax! What are your thoughts!

Rega should worry, right? The main reason we buy Regas is to be able to buy aftermarket upgrades, or am I missing something?

You could buy just a Groovetracer subplatter for the RP6, but you'll need to put the metal hat from Rega on top of it. And that would be a really bad thing to do!

Going all-Rega everything should be OK.
I have 4mm shims myself and it was ok with the original weight on my P5.

Any aftermarket underslung weight would fix the problem, and maybe a sonic upgrade along with it?

True. But you could just live happily with a Rega cart and never worry about VTA and alingment with the 3 point fixing. Rega Exact played sweet sweet music on my RP3 with zero Hi-Fi tweaking neurosis :)

I could be wrong, but i would guess that Rega design there TT with there own carts in mind first.

Too bad the P9 costs a lot more $$$ than the P5/RP6.... #-o
Of course with all my upgrades I'm moving closer and closer towards the pricce for a used P9....

I had the Exact on my P5, and found other carts, especially of the LOMC variety, to really bring out the strengths of the table/arm, far outshining the Exact's very good performance. So, I think Rega's TT design can and does support much more than the Rega range of carts.

Could I live with the Exact? Yes, of course, it's a very musical cart. But do I have to when I have adjustable VTA? No, and I think it brings much more to my musical enjoyment having more cart options.
