I was the block of wood person, and back then I wasnt sure what the OP was asking about. But the end result is beautiful. well worth the effort and a nicely crafted piece he can be proud of. Blocks of wood are much cheaper to test out ideas than the finished project, and many a block has saved an otherwise questionable project from the fate of too many homemade items. This example shows the difference between home made and custom.

I just had a question about the mechanical parts : what motor do you use on this TT ? DC ? AC ? what are the brand and model of the motor ?

For the ruby bearing, where did you find your brass housing ?

I'm building my own TT right now, and I'm looking for some tips for the platter rotating mechanisms.

I used the Rega motor upgrade which is AC. I originally planned for an original Planah motor which is DC, hence the mains socket on the back, but opted against it.

Take you're time.
It sounds obvious but if you're building something its really easy to be overly eager to get it finished and working, but thats when you're more likely to c**k something up. Plan it all out too, make sure you've got everything in its ideal position, like the phono jacks, power button etc. Once you commit and drill holes or cut bits out you'll be pretty stumped if you have to change anything.
Last thing, don't go in at the deep end. Keep you're first one simple. If you get too stuck with something you could end up either not completing it or spending more money to get the thing done right/fixed. Finish it, and if you wanna have a stab at something a little trickier then at least you'll have a bit more experience ans knowledge under your belt.

I agree to the post on advice. I spent a solid month on my table. There were times I just wanted it done but I'd step back & try to enjoy the whole building project itself. I figured that I'll have years to listen to her but I'll only build her once. So each day I worked on her I'd just stay focused on what I wanted to accomplish that day. It sounds totally stereotypical but "one day at a time!". Plan it out well & order your parts in advance. Have a goal in mind or drawn out so you know where your headed. Don't cut corners along the way just to get to the finish product.

Who makes your power switch? I really like the look. I think you indicated that momentary are readily available. I can use momentary.
